This is not lore breaking as it is considered an effect instead of material, and it is weightless. It is made of pure magical *Force*, and one does not need prior skill. Elves Have bonuses that they gain because all Elves train with Real Weaponry as they grow up, so the bonuses are with "real" swords.
I do not think Jaheira get any bonus to Fire Blade / Ice Blade (they are for sure Scimitars) even if she has two stars in it, but i will have to double check on that.
This bonus was available in original and to my knowledge it is because the Phantom Blade was always considered designed as a longsword. So it gained that bonus.
It was just one of those cool things I discovered in the game back then and I use to make builds on this.
And for me I don't bother comparing one spell to another. Each spell seems to follow its own rules and one does not exactly follow another in the way they work.
But I understand your comparison. Now I need to test out some things you mention
Forgetting the ridiculousness of pretending to build a character in BG2 on +1 THAC0 (obviously you're just arguing for the sake of it), staying strict on the thread the main reason (like all the silly cases that you pointed out) is the (original) description. There's no hint that the blade should be a longsword and in fact it is clear that it isn't a longsword. Furthermore speaks of natural (i.e. not modified) thac0 ("proficient with this weapon," i.e. not a longsword" AT NATURAL THAC0"). If something different was meant, the description would have reported it. So if it gave the +1 bonus to elf, it was an obvious mistake that has been corrected, totally irrelevant for the game mechanics.
There is no place for hostility in these forums.
You say the facts I mention are "silly" yet the original developers implemented it that way. Just like ghoul touch was implemented with a +4 thaco. This is not silly at all.
While I think Phantom blade will be fine with or without the +1 thaco from elf race trait this was another thing I noticed while comparing the two games. That this was changed or missing or improperly implemented.
I was always fair and respected all the forum rules, if you don't agree you can contact the mods. The forum is no place to discuss others' behaviours.
I will not answer to personal provocation, nor I will speak of another topic that has already cleared out in another thread and another forum. I answered with details to your question, since you don't have anything to say about it, I think the discussion is over.
However, this is not my table - it is Beamdog's. And they have already ruled on this matter. Further argument would probably just annoy the DM, and that usually leads to grudge monsters on the random encounter table.
Sometimes it's best just to let the rules slide and enjoy the story.
And as so it is in my humble opinion wrong to give an Elf a bonus with Pahantom, and i think that this was what the EE devs corrected. It was wrong before and is correct now.
#Stef.Corsi:
This was an overly hostile reply, and you need to own up to that. Replies like this gets you banned. Period.
I'm here to discuss the game, anyone should. I won't discuss about anything else, sorry.
