Phantom Blade missing its +1 to thaco for being a longsword
First I posted this in the wrong forum the other day. My mistake I thought I was posting in BG2.

Ok so in the original with the cds here my elf sorceror is gaining a +1 thaco when using the phantom blade because its considered a longsword. Which you can see clearly by looking at thaco.

So just wondering why in the EE this is nerfed or missing.

Hoping it will be fixed thank you.

If it is the Spell : Phantom Blade for mages i think it is because all that can cast it are considererd normal Proficient with it. I think this same rule apply to all the Spell Weaponry, both for Mages and for Divine Casters. It overrides / replaces / gives normal proficiency.

This is not lore breaking as it is considered an effect instead of material, and it is weightless. It is made of pure magical *Force*, and one does not need prior skill. Elves Have bonuses that they gain because all Elves train with Real Weaponry as they grow up, so the bonuses are with "real" swords.

I do not think Jaheira get any bonus to Fire Blade / Ice Blade (they are for sure Scimitars) even if she has two stars in it, but i will have to double check on that.

I think the +1 bonus if because he is an elf. So its not a profiency like when you invest your points into weapon skills or fighting styles.

This bonus was available in original and to my knowledge it is because the Phantom Blade was always considered designed as a longsword. So it gained that bonus.

It was just one of those cool things I discovered in the game back then and I use to make builds on this.

And for me I don't bother comparing one spell to another. Each spell seems to follow its own rules and one does not exactly follow another in the way they work.

But I understand your comparison. Now I need to test out some things you mention
:steamhappy: lol

Again? It has been already answered on BG1 forum, anyway....
Forgetting the ridiculousness of pretending to build a character in BG2 on +1 THAC0 (obviously you're just arguing for the sake of it), staying strict on the thread the main reason (like all the silly cases that you pointed out) is the (original) description. There's no hint that the blade should be a longsword and in fact it is clear that it isn't a longsword. Furthermore speaks of natural (i.e. not modified) thac0 ("proficient with this weapon," i.e. not a longsword" AT NATURAL THAC0"). If something different was meant, the description would have reported it. So if it gave the +1 bonus to elf, it was an obvious mistake that has been corrected, totally irrelevant for the game mechanics.

Stef you have a history of being hostile with your responses and I don't appreciate it.

There is no place for hostility in these forums.

You say the facts I mention are "silly" yet the original developers implemented it that way. Just like ghoul touch was implemented with a +4 thaco. This is not silly at all.

While I think Phantom blade will be fine with or without the +1 thaco from elf race trait this was another thing I noticed while comparing the two games. That this was changed or missing or improperly implemented.

I was always fair and respected all the forum rules, if you don't agree you can contact the mods. The forum is no place to discuss others' behaviours.
I will not answer to personal provocation, nor I will speak of another topic that has already cleared out in another thread and another forum. I answered with details to your question, since you don't have anything to say about it, I think the discussion is over.

The argument is valid. If this were my table, I'd allow it. If Phantom Blade is to be treated as a longsword, elves would get a +1 bonus.

However, this is not my table - it is Beamdog's. And they have already ruled on this matter. Further argument would probably just annoy the DM, and that usually leads to grudge monsters on the random encounter table.

Sometimes it's best just to let the rules slide and enjoy the story.

You all also need to remember that there are not too many different sprites for weapon animations in combat. It was always logical that Phantom Blade "looks" like a Long Sword since it is a "Blade", and so it used the Long sword Animation.

And as so it is in my humble opinion wrong to give an Elf a bonus with Pahantom, and i think that this was what the EE devs corrected. It was wrong before and is correct now.

This was an overly hostile reply, and you need to own up to that. Replies like this gets you banned. Period.

I repeat, I always respected all the forum rules. The forum is not for discussing other's behaviours, and you're no mod. In many years I have never been banned nor warned from a mod that I was "hostile" or for something else. Can anyone say the same?. Non verbal comunication can be misunderstood, and I'm not natural english speaker, so I can misuse some terms. I didn't mean anything else than answering the OP: didn't I anwered with detail about the rule interpretation? Did I get any feedback on what I said OT? No, I didn't.
I'm here to discuss the game, anyone should. I won't discuss about anything else, sorry.
