If you have any thieves who are good at it, set some traps. Summon up some monsters if you have any spells memorized or have a wand. You can use them to distract Torgal, though they probably wont last long with the damage he can do. Load up on buffs like Haste, Strength of One, Protection from Evil 10' Radius.
Depending on what spells you have, a Sorcerer or Mage might be able to provide a good distraction. Stoneskin, Improved Invisibility, Mirror Image, Blur and the like can buy you a lot of hits. If that character can hold his aggression, the others can target him with ranged attacks and spell (though he has 30% magic resistance).
If you picked up the Cloak of the Sewers, you can use that to turn into a Mustard Jelly, which should take no damage from the troll's attacks, since they do piercing damage.
When facing powerful regenerating creatures you may need to use summons such as spider spawn or animate dead for extra damage. Haste them and then use something else to shield he summons from damage. Buffs are more or less optional although you may need some spells to either separate groups or protect against powerful attacks.
Also the Trolls sometimes bug when taking a lot of hits and will remain standing until you move away. Watch their health and break off attacks shortly after they say near death (use tab to quickly check) then you can finish them with fire, acid or poison once they have fallen down. This is not an easy fight for early game so when in doubt try to run and shut the doors behind you.
For this fight
Warriors - Damage role (and finishing off trolls)
Priests - Summons and buffs (mainly summons)
Thief - Traps saved for the boss fight (ranged attacks as well)
Mage - Separate the group, block damage and an area effect invisibility spell to escape
This fight in terms of difficulty doesn't require a lot of tricks to beat so keep it simple for now. Just remember while a mage can be overwhelmed they can negate a lot of attacks with their magical defenses. Protection spells usually are used to protect against 1 type of damage or status effect that bothers you in a battle. Combat enhancements like haste, bless or strength modifications just increase your damage per second with weapons not spells.

Unless I forget about it, I may try to reproduce once my current party arrives in BG2. I've never used poison either (and my assassin was too squishy).
I dont remember if Jhor the Bleeder did as well. It's a Jon Snow sword, and I dont tend to use those very often.
For reasons of role playing who would keep powerful poison on hand? In real life venom loses it's potency fast unless kept refrigerated and Toxins have to be stored separate from everything else for safety reasons. Acid can be splashed on the target destroying it's container or fire spread on contact both of which are easier to store and use against trolls not to mention all that you are likely to have available. Poison is surprisingly common however ineffective for combat purposes in it's normal state as in most cases as it will kill slowly.
Assuming the changes to the rules what would hunt the trolls to keep their numbers down? Humans, dragons or elementals? With poison you would have wyverns, spiders and snakes all pose a threat to these otherwise invincible creatures. If you wanted to role play you could also kill them via completely freezing their body and shattering them, transforming them into something weaker or using spells that killed instantly.
I suppose I shouldn't be surprised at the stupidity of some people in thinking that there are ONLY 2 ways of killing trolls when that was the hint they were given. Still there were many fixes but at least this wasn't as bad as someone reporting mindflayers were devouring skeletons brains. There are still bugs in the game I even killed Bhaal in chapter 4 about 10 minutes ago without help but if something isn't broken don't try fixing it.
Conveniently, the same flail makes short work of any trolls you come across.
Keep him at a distance and he's pretty easy to kill.
