I don't get "cross-platform"
Can me and a friend both play on Steam? - I've never played this game before

Yep. Cross-platform generally implies that you can play your game on Steam with friends that might have purchased it on another storefront, like GOG.

Sometimes cross-platform also indicates that you can play with people on Xbox and Playstation, but I don't believe that is the case for these games.

Addendum: But since you both have it on Steam, there's nothing to worry about.

Oh, okay. I didn't even know this game was multiplayer lol
The shop page covers it:
Cross-play multiplayer support for Windows, Linux, and macOS
The underlying requirement for special cross-play support is because of hardware differences (e.g. endianness affecting data and data structures). That the game is sold on different gaming platforms is not the reason, since the game would point at Beamdog's same servers.

Also, the game has cross save, you can play in your android/iOS tablet with the same PC save

I don't know if it can be played between android and PC in multiplayer.

BG has been around for 20 years now...
There are some cRPG with multi coop (solasta, divinity original sin, neverwinter nights, icewind dale), and others like pathfinder and pillars without

only thing to add is you can in theory have 3 characters each and have no NPC's. This means missing out on alot of story though. Only one is classed as the protagonist though.

sorry, that wasn't intentional. What I should have said was you can, if you want, generate a full party and assign 3 characters to each of you, or you can have 1 each and pick up NPCs in game!

The part about only one being the protagonist basically means there is only one Gorian's Ward - i.e. main character who would progress through he story, have bhall powers etc. I think that means the NPC romances etc are through the main character only too.

To be honest I am going by what I have read elsewhere, never bothered with multi player before personally, so a trip to the wiki might help you more!
