Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition

View Stats:
14,000 gold worth of loot from a single battle
Well, triggered the final group of Cowled Wizards on my solo Cleric/Mage and it resulted in a pretty good haul.

4 Laeral's Tear necklaces @ 1800 apiece, 4 level 8 spell scrolls at 1,500 each, a scroll of Protection from Undead for 225, and 655 gold, which I had already picked up. Symbol: Fear was the only spell I don't have scribed, but I have another copy in my scroll case if I want it. That's enough to pay off the Shield of Balduran, my last major purchase.

I alaways fight the Cowled Wizards for their loot early on but I've never seen anything that much valuable other than a few gems.

If you want gold early on you take the rods from chateau irenicus, sell them to the thieves guild in the docks, drink several potions of master thievery and rob them back, then sell them again, repeat.

gold's an arbitrary thing. you can be filthy rich whenever. On the one hand, should you be allowed to sell things to merchants you've just stolen from those merchants?

but on the other hand thats how thief skills work. they are pretty broken, traps just end fights. pickpocket gets you all the gold.

you can then take that gold, and steal other scrolls buying the ones you can't steal and scribe erase the scrolls, in AMN theres enough scrolls to get you to 1.5 M at least. at which point new characters that join the team join at 1.25 million.

Well, since my ferret can't enter the store interface, I have no way to steal things from shops. Soloing allows for me to sell off a lot of excess loot like bladed weapons and most armors. Plus, I've triggered multiple encounters with guards for looking in containers which netted about 30 sets of full plate to sell at 1,800 each. All in all, I have ~153k gold, and that's after buying the Robe of Vecna, Vhailor's Helm, the Defender of Easthaven, Sling of Everard and Shield of Balduran. The more gold I have, the more wands I can recharge. Still need to pay for the Ring of Wizardry, and give Galen the 15k. And there's a few things I'll need from Ribald's "special wares" which is still a ways off.

I do have some more scrolls where I have duplicates I could probably sell. Some of them I'm hanging on to. I put them in my quick slots before I summon a simulacrum with Vhailor's Helm. This way I can cast things like Horrid Wilting and Incendiary Cloud. Almost to level 14 as a mage so I'll be able to do it with a Projected Image soon.

While I have sold and stolen back merchandise, I do refrain from the sell, steal, reapeat chain. That's just too cheesy. I also don't like the tactic of scribe, erase, scribe. And I certainly don't kick out party members when scribing. One of my characters back on the disc based version was a Fighter 9/Mage dual class. This was before ToB was released, and level 9 was the highest fighter level you could achieve and still reach max level as a mage. I hit level 10 as a mage after getting the XP from the de'Arnise keep quest, after doing my usual stuff like the Circus, Copper Coronet/Slaver Stockade, and maybe the Harper Hold.
