Any tips for dealing with the dated graphics?
Hey all, this is a serious question. I really want to get into this game as I can tell the story is going to be great and I love the NwN/ DnD style system/ classes etc. Maybe it's the years of playing very graphically beautiful games but, I just can't stand to look at this.

Any tips on shutting out this feeling?

Graphics are very atmospheric and set the mood for the game very well. It's an arcade game and it has to flow and the way this engine represents that to me always spoke ages.

In my heart somewhere I'm very nostalgic for this style of graphics which are just solid to immerse yourself in where you find yourself in a different world, in an alternate, fantastical universe and at the end of the day this transition into 3D (engines) has become somewhat hard to get my head around the fact that 3D is just so, different.

My favorite type of game is where they blend 3D and 2D well together so to say the world is built in 3D wirefreames which are then artistically sort of filled in with 2D sprites or art and also to note that games like BG and IWD series that give an illusion off of 3D are to my and in an extent to my mind very soothing because it grips you and sort of reaches deep.

It's a type of fashion. A specific style of art that you either like or don't, but one truth is that I think it won't ever be made again as it was before which I just honestly don't care about myself but am rather proud even though not involved myself with the product, its production and origins, am proud of that achievement of these games graphical engines (Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 and especially Icewind Dale 1 and to an extent 2) have been made and are a pillar of culture.

Pillars of cultures or not they are very outdated lets be honest. Just look at the RPG's coming out this year in comparison/ I think thats what the OP was trying to get at. I feel ya i wanna play d and d games but there a big issue with older games just looking bad to compared today's versions.

However I feel personally I have to give you a nod here. To me System Shock 2 is proof of this what you said is the truth.

But then again I always was a FPS lover, and I have to add: to each their own. Ty.

Alternatively, you can force yourself to play some old original NES games until you can look at BG2 and realize how amazing the graphics are.

To me the crux so, the heart of the game is the gameplay which is Real-Time with Pause type of ordeal. Graphics are secondary but do accompany the power fantasy in a very excellent fashion.

People were saying the exact same in 2003 already when Neverwinter Nights came out. But 3d is constantly changing. What you wrongly consider beautiful today will be obsolete in 5 years. But 2d will remain the same until the earth spins around the sun.
So begone, poser, for love is blind, and good games do not need another man who "really wants to get into them". No need to force yourself.

I like this a lot, very accurate perspective.

Here's a tip.

Don't shut off the feeling, & instead try to grow to love everything about it eventually just like how dating works sometimes. 🥳

BG is like dating an older person lol, you gotta appreciate the other things even if their hair is grey & face is wrinkly. But their souls....their souls are beautiful & could hold higher value. 😭

Fall in love with the Imperfections lol, where you might play other modern games & still feel BG is better regardless since you're not like Shallow Hal anymore. www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9kmnUkx2bY

I don't think these types of games have ever looked better than BG. All the modern ones i see look super dodgy, If you like your games to have awesome visual style then BG is for you, if you want 3d squares on screen then you wont find it here, BG has the benefit of having a compelling story, great gameplay, and was visually sexy.

Do you know that one of my all times fantasies is a modern 4k resolution perfect remake with no changes of BG2? You are breaking my heart! LOL! But actually yeah I hear ya! LOL! What why can't they appreciate this classic for what it is?

BG looks like an animated painting. It still looks beautiful to me

graphics are not why you play this kind of game, like at all, so this post is perplexing to me.

ever meet a beautiful looking person who is dumb as @#$%, has the most obnoxious voice and is a jerk?
