In my heart somewhere I'm very nostalgic for this style of graphics which are just solid to immerse yourself in where you find yourself in a different world, in an alternate, fantastical universe and at the end of the day this transition into 3D (engines) has become somewhat hard to get my head around the fact that 3D is just so, different.
My favorite type of game is where they blend 3D and 2D well together so to say the world is built in 3D wirefreames which are then artistically sort of filled in with 2D sprites or art and also to note that games like BG and IWD series that give an illusion off of 3D are to my and in an extent to my mind very soothing because it grips you and sort of reaches deep.
It's a type of fashion. A specific style of art that you either like or don't, but one truth is that I think it won't ever be made again as it was before which I just honestly don't care about myself but am rather proud even though not involved myself with the product, its production and origins, am proud of that achievement of these games graphical engines (Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 and especially Icewind Dale 1 and to an extent 2) have been made and are a pillar of culture.
However I feel personally I have to give you a nod here. To me System Shock 2 is proof of this what you said is the truth.
But then again I always was a FPS lover, and I have to add: to each their own. Ty.
So begone, poser, for love is blind, and good games do not need another man who "really wants to get into them". No need to force yourself.
I like this a lot, very accurate perspective.
Here's a tip.
Don't shut off the feeling, & instead try to grow to love everything about it eventually just like how dating works sometimes. 🥳
BG is like dating an older person lol, you gotta appreciate the other things even if their hair is grey & face is wrinkly. But their souls....their souls are beautiful & could hold higher value. 😭
Fall in love with the Imperfections lol, where you might play other modern games & still feel BG is better regardless since you're not like Shallow Hal anymore. www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9kmnUkx2bY
Do you know that one of my all times fantasies is a modern 4k resolution perfect remake with no changes of BG2? You are breaking my heart! LOL! But actually yeah I hear ya! LOL! What why can't they appreciate this classic for what it is?
graphics are not why you play this kind of game, like at all, so this post is perplexing to me.
ever meet a beautiful looking person who is dumb as @#$%, has the most obnoxious voice and is a jerk?
