Companion quests
So I know there's a time limit on Jaheira's first quest, and there's sort of one on Nalia's, but I've also got Minsc yelling at me to go to Imnesvale, and I've got some unfinished quests for both Yoshimo and Keldorn hanging over my head, and I just want to know what happens if I put their quests off for too long. Will they leave, or will they just keep nagging until I do it?

Companions quest with timers eventually leave permanent...
It varies by companion, and by quest (many companions have multiple quests). I don't think Minsc's nagging is part of the quest; I think he'll just keep reminding you about it. When you first encounter Keldorn, I'm not sure that there is a timer for helping with the Unseeing Eye quest, but there may be a timer on his personal quest. I don't think Yoshimo leaves you if you don't fulfill his request (and in any event, all that is involved in clearing his nagging is the few lines of dialog).

Read the journal entries to see if they warn you of a companion leaving. Also, I think that companions will typically escalate the nagging and warn you that they are prepared to leave.

Minsc will never leave you, and Yoshimo has no actual quest, just a Geas to put you in the right direction, which you will eventually do no matter what you choose to do.

Jaheira is complicated, but if you play with her from the start and are nice to her, all parts wil lunfold naturally. She leaves by default to go alone to the Harper Hold, and if you dealy to long later, she will leave again but stand outside the Harper Guild. I honestly dont know for how long but it is for a long enough time that you sould have no problem getting there.

I have never tried to have her standing idle by the Harpers, then go and finish Underdark and see if she is still there, but i think it is possible so long as her quest chain is not broken and she is positive towards you.

Cernd will leave and go stand outside the Druid Grove, if you finish the Quest without him he will always be there.

Most personal quests can be handled by dialouge, like Korgan and his Book, Edwin and his Nether Lich. No timer on those, but by dialouge you may have to re-hire Korgan (possibly pay a new amount og gold).

For Short, you have a very long time to do stuff with most of the Companions, only some are on short timers.

If you go to underdark it is a one-way trip for a long time, and most of the Companions quest are supposed to be set on hold, but i am not sure about this, and not sure about which ones.

The safest route is to gather your party you want to take along to underdark and finsih their personal matters, just to be safe.

Unless it has changed, at least for Jaheira, the quest timer doesn't pause in Underdark. The quest event will not trigger in the Underdark. So if you have not finished Jaheira's quest line by before you go to the Underdark, the next quest event will spring immediately when you leave the Underdark, on top of the battle that immediately awaits you when you leave the Underdark.

Which chapter is the Underdark in? I'm on chapter 2 right now.

Underdark is Chapter 5. Chapters 4 and 5 will isolate you from the rest of the world, so you won't be able to do any companion-related quests.

If you try to complete as much as possible in Chapter 2, you'll spend enough time there for most companions' quest timers to cycle. Jaheira's quest has the most events, it's the one that could drag out if you're not prompt, or if you're really quick through chapters 2 and 3.
