EDIT: If you find out that nothing went wrong, it might be worth the hassle to just to get one character through the dungeon and make a save right at the end. You could then just save edit this character whenever you want a new character.
I can see how Shadowdancer would be great for a solo playthrough however in a group hes often forgotten while you concentrate on tanks, buffing, and magic casting.
I can see that its similar to dragon age where the most powerful characters are mages and clerics Ive had very slow progress with fighters and archers spamming an enemy while a healer backs them up and I find it funny that a simple low lever magic missle can half even the most powerful enemies( at least in chapter 2 ) health bar.
It is interesting for strategy sake if you have 2 mages buffing one healing and 3 fighters bashing the enemy with the ocasional dispel, breach, secret word debuffs but that seems to make battles last a lot longer, if you load up on magic missles and melfs acid arrow they seem to get though the toughest portections.
My first playthoughs back when they first came out where shamefully cheat assisted mostly because I was in grade school and didnt understand the depth of the game which is a wonderful thing now that Im older. My parents did not approve of consoles, tv, or gameing so most of us played on the school computers since back then we could hide games in the windows or system folder lol..
If you are getting easily killed, what is your HP and everything? You really shouldn't be getting killed that fast if you have a decent Cons score.
Not really, only warrior classes (Paladin, Fighter, Ranger etc.) benefits from 16+ CON score... your character really shouldn't die to one arrow. Are you absolutely positive you're playing BG 2, not 1? Low level characters do drop to stray arrows, but in BG 2 even a Mage with decent CON should start with more than 40+ HP.
I added the Gibberlings tweaks mod that might have something to do with the quick deaths. I started a warrior playthough with basic armor and spawned him out of Irenacus's dungeon and he definatly survives a lot of more hits poisions and debuffs, I guess a side effect of having a shadow dancer is how quickly he can die, but it was fun in the neera questline to sneak in behind the red mage leaders and stab her in the back for 1/2 or 3/4ths of her health, unfortunatly she is very quickly healed.
The Shadowdancer backstab is further weakened not only by the lower multiplier, but by the fact that you cannot multi-class with Shadowdancer, nor choose it as the second class of a dual-class. A thief and warrior combination helps the backtab ability mightily with exceptional strength, specialization+ bonuses, and better THAC0 table.
Hide In Plain Sight does not have nearly the same impact in Baldur's Gate as in Neverwinter Nights. My understanding of backstab in Baldur's Gate is that you only get one backstab per enemy (an enemy becomes immune to backstab after getting hit by the first backstab). In Neverwinter Nights, a Shadowdancer can hide-and-backstab as long as it takes to get the job done.
I never really had the problem of too much return-fire killing my Shadowdancer. When setting up a first backstab, I try to time with pause to be sure I have my tank entering enemy sighting distance at the same time the backstab is going off; hopefully by the time enemies can think about changing targets, Stealth has recharged. I am not using any mods either.
