Online Multiplayer Issues With BG2:EE

My friend and I have just bought Baldur's Gate 2: Enhanced Edition and are trying to start a game on it together. However, thus far we haven't been able to join each other's servers at all. Even when one of us finds the other's server and attempts to join it just comes up saying 'waiting for server to respond' but nothing comes up on the server to allow them to join.
We have also tried using our IP addresses to link directly but the same thing happens. Does anyone know why this is or if there's a better way to join each other's servers?
I figure it must be something going wrong since the game has a popular multiplayer reputation.

i have exactly the same problem. i made a thread about this previously and someone said to try hamachi. i have not tried this yet though.

Thanks. I'll have a look into hamachi. Shame to have to use something like that since it should have been simple to use the multiplayer capacity.

Have you looked into your Windows Defender / Firewall settings? I imagine Windows from 7 and up love blocking out stuff.
