Wraitform is different, and is one lvl 3 spell. So a lvl 2 and 4 vs a lvl 3. And i cannot yet see it's blissfulness on Sorecrors, Party wise or Solo.
But in a FMT, you dont have lvl 4 spells availible until you either find a scroll of Stoneskin or purchase it. With Wraitform you can do something else with your 1st and 2nd lvl 4 slots.
In a Solo Fighter/Mage/Thief run i found this most useful. I still reverted to Stoneskins when i got the levels, even used both. The Prebuffing with Stoneskin, MI, Shield, Blur, Fireshield, Strength (potion or spell, depending) and Haste with Wraithform last and on top made my FMT a virtually untouchable dual-wielding killing Machine for long enough to clear out most critters from most locations.
I just love how this great game of Old can learn me new stuff, even today. I am pretty sure i will always use Wraithform in some way on the lower levels of BG2 from now on.
In chapters past BG1 it is necessary to know whether enemies use magical weapons (or their attacks are counted as ones) or not. For example in the first ambush while travelling outside Athkatla there's a large group of orogs that hit quite hard even a well-armored tank, just because they are numerous. In such cases WF helps a lot. It found many uses during SoD as well.
Moreover, though SCS improves many enemies' equipment, there's an option to replace many +1 weapons and ammunition for "excellent" counterparts. This improves the effectiveness of WF even more.
