Wraithform lvl 3 Spell God tier ?
I Just made a FMT to try out some new ideas, and picked Wraithform (lvl 3) as one of the spells. I dont think there are many that sell this spell, i found it on the merchant in Watchers Keep also.

I was absolutely broken as i see it. It took me undamaged through all the difficult fights in Irenicus Dungeon, and i have used it on every Ambush that happens along the way.

And i used it at the Circus, and vs every troll in Trademeet, and every enemy in Nalias Keep down to Torgall himself. And on every spider and shadow in the graveyard. And on most fights everywhere. The Fallen Paladins, hard fight for a low lvl FMT, but with Wraithform it was a blast.

And I found that Lots of undead does not have Magical Attacks to their fists / claws / hands.

It is like a Protection From Normal Weapons spell (lvl 5) but you cannot cast spells. But you can buff all you want beforehand, and be a fighting killing machine that cannot be harmed for 2 rounds pr level.

I still think it will be a crap spell for a Sorceror or Pure Mage, but on a Fighter / Mage combination i found it to be God Tier.

Does anyone else have explored this spell ?

Yeah it's a good spell for a F/M. IIRC the scroll drops in BG during the fight with Sarevok's followers in the final caves when you're escaping from Candlekeep When you get it isn't great since most of the enemies from that point to the end have magical weapons. It has some use in SOD, but a lot of the enemies there also have magical weapons. In BG2 it is good, at least until you get PFNW.

boots of etherealness. you get immunity to weapons +1 and less at the end of SoA. As for its usefulness I've never seen the need to use it. going instead for stone skin and mirror image.

Agreed those two are the bread and butter for all mages, both Single class, Dual class and Multiclass, for a really long time. Also Sorcerors need them. But it is two spells, lvl 2 and lvl 4. And you can be in trouble when Stoneskin wears out, or MI's are depleted.

Wraitform is different, and is one lvl 3 spell. So a lvl 2 and 4 vs a lvl 3. And i cannot yet see it's blissfulness on Sorecrors, Party wise or Solo.

But in a FMT, you dont have lvl 4 spells availible until you either find a scroll of Stoneskin or purchase it. With Wraitform you can do something else with your 1st and 2nd lvl 4 slots.

In a Solo Fighter/Mage/Thief run i found this most useful. I still reverted to Stoneskins when i got the levels, even used both. The Prebuffing with Stoneskin, MI, Shield, Blur, Fireshield, Strength (potion or spell, depending) and Haste with Wraithform last and on top made my FMT a virtually untouchable dual-wielding killing Machine for long enough to clear out most critters from most locations.

I just love how this great game of Old can learn me new stuff, even today. I am pretty sure i will always use Wraithform in some way on the lower levels of BG2 from now on.

I built my last playthrough on this spell in my EET+SCS. In BG1 my Dragon Disciple took this spell quite early and tanked 2/3 of the game with this spell only even though it blocks further casting. The second char was an Illusionist-Thief gnome and there was little problem for this duet on hardcore difficulty of SCS v32.
In chapters past BG1 it is necessary to know whether enemies use magical weapons (or their attacks are counted as ones) or not. For example in the first ambush while travelling outside Athkatla there's a large group of orogs that hit quite hard even a well-armored tank, just because they are numerous. In such cases WF helps a lot. It found many uses during SoD as well.
Moreover, though SCS improves many enemies' equipment, there's an option to replace many +1 weapons and ammunition for "excellent" counterparts. This improves the effectiveness of WF even more.
