Aerie is annoying
For real....I forgot how annoying she can be. And she's probably one of the most useful characters. I always RP a good guy in the BGs so I can't tell here to shut her darn pie hole!

Last played through this when I used to drink like the world was ending and completely forgot most of the game. Having a great time though, so many quests!

The worst is when you're crawling back to town with 3 dead NPCs trying to revive Jaheira so she can revive the rest without having to pay 20,000 or some such.

Don't even get me started on the EE npc "Neera" I just told that bee otch to go away no thank you.
Actually I'm going through these again for BG3

I'm very happy Beamdog didn't get BG3 what the hell was up with that company? You're kinda forced to play the EE editions because most people don't have a whole day to tinker with mods and basic programming pretty much to get BG1 or 2 to run properly and look okay on a modern monitor.

Albeit multiclass madness. Cleric/Mage means spell overload as in "too many spells to choose from", and during combat you would rather use a separate cleric and mage.

She is one of the better companions added by the EE, not only due to her personal quest but also because of full voice-acting already in BG1EE. I understand that her role ("geek girl") and her voice-actor's voice are polarizing, but that is life.

Uh oh, BG3 takes place 100 years after the original BG series, so it won't be a sequel. And it won't be anything like the originals anyway.

Beamdog deserves the praise for keeping these fabulous games alive for such a long time. They've done much more than fixing trivial bugs or merging external mods. They've continued development of the game and its engine as to create the enhanced editions and Siege of Dragonspear. And no, you're not "forced" to play the enhanced editions, but if modding the originals is considered too inconvenient, uh oh, then that only proves what value the EE adds to players, particularly new players.

All of that crap they added I avoided in BG1 EE I'm not interested in whatever jacked crap they tried to make money off of a great game that they didn't create. It's fricking laughable

I want the option to murder Neera, Dorn, and whatever stupid NPCs they cooked up and have Xan do it with his moonblade and bury them under Candlekeep and then Xan can cast a spell maybe Greater Wish like they never existed, afterwards find some lich and have him cast a time spell or a planar spell and find the beamdog people and stop their ancestors from ever existing.

I know for damn sure none of the stupid Beamdog characters are going to be in BG3 because Lyrian isn't interested in starting a converstation on transphobia.

Siege of Dragonspear is NOT part of the BG legacy everyone should just ignore that,

Now that you mention it....doesnt Jaheira's death reset/end her romance? It does end it, doesnt it?

I like the EE version a lot. Theres some things I dont like though.

I like using my beautiful, masculine, fearless skeleton warriors but the 2,5 patch is buggy and they just stand around, disengaging from/not attacking enemies pretty often and thats super annoying.

Dont like Neera much. She seems more like a child than a woman. Like Jaheira much more. Jaheira doesnt talk so much unfunny crap. And for somebody that just lost their love and lives and fights in a totally mad world shes a surprisingly mild Dramaqueen. Still a Dramaqueen but an attractive one. At least she seems like a woman. Neera is annoying and Aerie immediately annoyed me in the circus tent when I first met her.

Shes like über-over the top - 10000 % emotional. Those ppl are unstable in my experience.

I take Nalia instead most of the time. And Korgan. Always Korgan. Hes just funny. He just wants to slaughter stuff and makes dirty jokes or dreams about torture but he's loyal and respects the main chars strength and even goes down into hell with him. Gotta respect that.

When I first started playing this back when it first came out (meaning the original, disc based non-EE version) I couldn't stand Aerie. Always whining about her wings, a lot of micromanaging to keep her alive since a sharp sneeze could kill her. Really naive, and I couldn't bear doing her romance. I eventually grew to, well not like her, but tolerate her. I love Cleric/Mages, but her personality is not for me.

Neera, now. Aerie pales in comparison to how much I hate Neera. The voice acting and writing are just so amateurish. The introduction with her in part one was so ridiculous, and there was no way to avoid it. Thankfully a patch now allows you to tell her to get lost. The only positive was getting a gem bag out of it. Despite this, I tried recruiting her into my party one time. I didn't put up with her for long before I ditched her. And by "ditch" I mean held east of the Temple of Lathander and let some basalisks petrify her.

When I first got the cutscene with her in part two, I literally shuddered and cursed, as if by reflex. And yet, because I was trying to kill time on the Jaheira romance, I decided to give her quest a shot. More poor writing and voice acting. I was constantly groaning and rolling my eyes. She got all annoyed when I tried buying from the Cardassian merchant. The "traitor" was painfully obvious. Well, at least I had a scroll of Flesh to Stone and was able to repetrify her.

Dorn, for a guy who supposedly sold his soul to a demon, is about as fascinating as watching paint dry. I honestly could not get interested in his quest line. The meeting with him outside the mine? Yeah, Senjak and Dorotea barely care that several of their thugs just start dropping dead for no apparent reason. Once he joins, he just blathers on about Luskan prison and betrayal and blah, blah, blah. Since he's so darn boring, never bothered to recruit him in part 2.

Rassad? Well, low level monks aren't too useful, so never used him in part one. And since I've never experienced his questline, and I just haven't had a party where I felt he would fit, never recruited him in part 2.

I get the Neera quest out of the way pretty quickly. Dont do all those annoying tiny quests like finding some godless cats and all that . Just do the main quest quickly to get the xp, go to the wizards enclave (good loot and very good xp there) and then I drop her right away.

Dont wanne hate on Neera's voice actor. But the character and lines and attitude of Neera are a deal breaker. Compare that to Viconia or Jaheira or Korgan or Sarevok. Nalia is naive as well and can be annoying but I found her to be way more likeable. And I always enjoyed freeing her keep and the subsequent quests with the Roenalls (or Ronnals?) a lot. Nalia is in a weird spot for me. I dont like her a lot but I also dont dislike her. Even though she has some similarities with Neera.

You know who Neera reminds me off? That asian women from The Force Awakens. That weird, über naive, stupid and dull attitude.

I like characters like Anomen infinitely more than chars like Neera. Anomen is more serious about himself, very opinionated as well but just darker, more bloodthirsty, like a crusader or fanatic with a hint of good but also a touch of evil and you and your actions determine which way he goes. That is awesome. I like Anomen a lot in fact. I like Keldorn too. I just like Viconia a bit more than Anomen cause shes just evil but she is still loyal to the godchild and never forgets that it saved her.

Compare Neera to the way Sarevok can join your group and how you can show him a different path. His voice, his lines, his ambition, his addiction to power, his annoyance with being stuck between doubt and his search for conquest. All of it. That.....was awesome. Very well written and fun. I started a whole new campaign when I took him for the first time only to loose him in the final fight. I wanted to do it right and redeem him and started again and never regretted it.

Neera just pales badly compared to any of those characters but especially to Sarevok. I like to fool around and laugh a lot. So im all for humor but there are many humor styles I do not really enjoy at all. Compare Korgans jokes about drinking and mayhem and hairy dwarven girls or basically any female to Neera's silly and unfunny 'jokes'. Remember his mocking and angry statements and all that. That....was funny af. Korgan is great. I just cant play without him. Hes just an evil, but loyal, brutal, funny killing machine that loves a good drink and women. Or Keldorn who's just that pure hearted, old, powrful, honorable knight. Those characters are just way, waaaay more awesome than a completly not funny Neera.

I never played with Minsc, not because I dont like him but because I always have other characters and classes I like even more. Minsc is funny in an insane way though. And his voice acting is great as well. Never had Hexxat join my party but I dont dislike her. Like her way more than Neera. Well....anybody is better than Neera.

the worst thing is all the level drain in BG2, so you cast lesser restoration and then your cleric whines about being tired all the time when you don't want to rest because its just your cleric.

which eventually goes away since you can just have your planetars cast lesser restoration but thats much later on.

I have to apologize a little bit. Beamdog did do one thing, they made the game playable on modern computers. I have both BG1 and 2 on GOG and they simply don't work without pretty much a day's time spent in modding and even getting it to look right. No old game looks correct without playing in a tiny window, basically you're forced to play on a CRT monitor on an old PC

The only reason I EE keepered Minsc is was he was always my second fighter in BG1. Me, Minsc, Branwen melee muscle followed with Imoen, Dynaheir, and I always kept the 6th NPC as a rotational.

You get an apology, that's it. On the matter of BG3 these forums are going to be swimming once the game is released. I hate Neera, Dorn, and whatever discussion they tried to start and the FACT that they tried to make money off of a game that wasn't their own. Next thing I know someone will do it with the Elder Scrolls.

Yeah Korgan is freaking hilarious, yet without ever becoming a joke character. He's just awesome. Him and Mazzy in the same partyis a fantasic combination.
