Odd locked door in planar sphere.
This isnt so much a problem as im mildly amused. I found a locked door with no windows of any kind in a wall, i go to unlock it, it tells me "The door leads to an empty storage area. There is no point in trying to bypass the magical wards to open it." How does the character know this? Its locked and windowless. and why is this empty room so special? Games let me enter plenty of empty rooms before now. I suspect this will matter when im doing the stronghold or something, not a huge deal. Just thought the wording was awkward.

Have you asked Google yet? Questions and theories about that room are as old as the game. An accessible empty room would raise similar questions. Curious people even used cheats to go to the other side of the door and return with empty hands.
I expect they meant to put something there, but didn't and left the door. would you really like a broom closet in your mage stronghold. perhaps you are RP a witch and brooms are important to you. there you go.
I hadnt asked google yet, i intended to go there next, so thank you for saving me the time. I hear if you use strength on it you can push the door open and find a mew.

In any case thanks for clearing that up.

Didn't you notice any of the other decorative staircases leading nowhere (beholder area, endgame), alcoves (guarded compound), etc?

It's a convenient place for a level transition if you are not sure how many levels you can make in the available time.

Yeah, the Guarded Compound actually has the same layout as the Farrad Estate in the Bridge District. The "alcoves" in the Guarded Compound are entrances/exits on the upper floor of the Farrad Estate. Several houses have recycled maps, but one that always bothered me was Mekrath's. It has the same design as one of the floors of Durlag's Tower from part one. I want to say floor three, the one with the Wisdom Tome. I highly doubt he used the same architect.
