Yoshimo (spoiler)
OK, we know what happens to Yoshimo if you bring him to Spellhold. Thus, he is the only companion from SoA who cannot join you in ToB. However what happens if you DON'T take him? Can he be brought back in ToB, and if not, why not? Does some weird random death happen to him to prevent this?[spoiler/]

If you don't take him with you, he will die anyways. If you told him to wait at the Copper Coronet, for example, he will die when you first enter it after returning from the Underdark.

Spoiler tags for a twenty year old game, gotta love the silliness of it all.

Hey! There are people who are just picking it up, especially the extended edition. Never hurts to take precautions.

Thank you Mario, but the princess is in another castle!

Meh, TWENTY YEAR old game. You also going to spoiler tag the fact that you are a Bhaalspawn, Imoen is your spiritual half sister (makes the Imoen romance mod more than a bit squicky), and in the end you have the chance to ascend to Godhood?

Awwww! Now you spoiled the game for me!

You know if you mouse over the topic, it reads the spoiler for you without the tags right?

but yeah, as per his dialog in spellhold if event in spellhold doesn't happen, the geas happens.

Sucks to be Yoshimo.

Oh, if he dies due to the geas, does he leave his heart behind?

Addendum: Just found his body and no, no heart. Oh well.

I do not know if this will work in BG2:EE but there was a way to get Yoshimo for the remainder of SoA in the original game. Of course, you start by not taking him Spellhold. After you return to Athkatla, go to the Copper Coronet and use the entrance on the right hand side (Korgan hangs out close to that one). Yoshimo will be close to the door. As soon as the scene opens, immediately click on Yoshimo. You cannot hesitate long. Your character will go up to him and you can recruit him back into your party. He will still die, BUT, now that he is in your party you can raise him from the dead either at a temple or with a party member. Now he is back in your party and will stay with you till the end of SoA. Unfortunately you will lose him when you start ToB.

You can add him into the party if you pause the instant it loads inside the Coronet. But after he dies, he is immediately removed from the party. Also happens if you add him, kill him with the console and then raise him.
