Staff of the Magi
One of the things this does is to turn the wielder invisible. I'm curious how exactly this works. It's not improved invisibility, so the wielded becomes visible if he/she attacks, and can be attacked in turn. When does the invisibiliy return? Does the wielder have to spend a round not attacking for this to happen? Or does it return briefly at the start of the next round, only to cease again if he attacks?

I know that somtimes when I try to heal the wielding mage during combat, I get the message that I cannot target invisible creatures. Also, I presume that if the healing cleric has True Sight in effect, they can heal the wielder even if invisible?

I think the invisibility should only be reapplied if they switch to another weapon and then back to the Staff. So if they are switching to a sling and then back, either via manual control or AI/script (I always have that turned off) they will go invisible again. I'm soloing a Cleric/Mage and I picked up the Staff early, and I haven't had the invisibility reapply without me reequipping it. True Sight does not affect allied creatures.

invisibility is applied when they equip the staff, if you want to apply it again, swap to your other weapon and back.

Interesting. Unfortunately, my guy usually also has Melf's in effect during combat. This prevents unequipping and re-rquipping the Staff until the Meteors are used up.

Addendum: Ah, hang on. When the meteors are used up, the Staff seems to re-equip. That's why I can't heal him sometims during combat. I often see the message that the wielder is protected from evil when that happens.

OK, not a super big fan of the staff of the magi myself, if you can get it, you've already beaten the most difficult fight in SoA without it.

it served some purpose before EE fixed it, to allow hide in plain sight cheese with a thief swapping to the staff, then swapping to a backstab weapon to get lots of backstabbings.

but if you swap away from the staff EE version removes the invisibility.

I'm sure it has some utility, its just I'd rather just have improved invisibility or some other upgraded invisibility spell active instead.

It's got a lot of other uses besides the invisibility deal.
