spellhold studios mega mod?
Umm... for as long as memory lets me remember i have come back and played baldurs gate once every 2 years or so, i always went to spellhold and got the mega mod installation? but it's nowhere to be seen?

I cannot praise the mod enough? it was absolutely insane and bought almost infinite replayability to me... (i normally cant return to a game once let alone 100 times)

where did it go...? whats the alternative?

You probably are remembering the Big World Project, it's still hosted at Spellhold Studios at this link -> BiG World English v18.2[www.shsforums.net]

That points to the PDF with the mod list and installation instructions, the actual downloads are these:
BiG World Textpack English v18.2[www.shsforums.net]
BiG World Fixpack v18.2[www.shsforums.net]
BiG World Installpack v18.2.4[www.shsforums.net]

I haven't used it for ages (since ~2012) so I can't say for sure if it's still will work for the EEs or not... the good thing is that it was recently updated.

Good luck!

BiG World install is a bit outdated, unfortunately
https://github.com/EE-Mod-Setup/EE-Mod-Setup is the successor to BiG World with a more up-to-date database of mods and links, and full support for EE.

I personally wouldn't recommend EE Mod Setup (and this is my personal opinion ofc.,) not for actual technical reasons as the tool does its job correctly, but for what it does... and I mean, it's a bit underhanded in the way it makes you believe it's downloading the mods you want, only to realize the mods you got aren't the official ones released by the authors, but modified versions... or that actually applies 3rd party patches to them before installing.

The point is, none of those modifications are done with the consent of the authors (in many cases, not saying all of them are without author consent...,) and unlike with the old Fixpack that actually fixed only gamebreaking bugs, in this case there are instances of actually changing dialogue and other conditions that aren't actually bugs per-se, but just flavour changes (i.e. cases of adding banter to a NPC mod without the consent of the author of such NPC mod.)

Ofc, everyone is free to do what they please, and I also used EE Mod Setup once, unknowingly at that time, at the start of last year when I came back to modding BG... but the problem you'll face is (and I had this problem myself,) if something doesn't work and you have actual problems with some mod, the moment you mention you've installed it with EE Mod Setup to the author of the mod, the moment you lose support from them... and you only will have the forums at the home of EE Mod Setup as recourse available to ask for help.

Besides, Leonardo Watson is back at updating BWP (btw, last update for the BWP install pack is "yesterday", as of today) and at the very least, the PDF with the mod list and the suggested install order from it is very useful as guidance for your own modding.

I personally recommend Project Infinity as mod manager and to do the actual homework yourselves on the order and which mods you want... you can ask for help on specifics of load order and/or mods to include. Almost all mods that are EE compatible are available at G3 or Spellhold, and many have Github mirrors, so is not difficult to get hold of them atm.
