Cavalier party scheming
(Important note: I'm using the original BG 1&2, not enhanced edition. Meaning that precludes a few companions...)

I'm trying to work out a good target party for a Cavalier CHARNAME (why cavalier? I decided that my roleplay conceits match the paladin best, and the cavalier seems the most versatile). Main quandary is making sure all spells are somehow accessible, while also having a good thief (read: Jan). I also want Valygar in there (...there IS a romance mod for him out there, right?). So thus far, I have the following:

CHARNAME (Cavalier)
Valygar (Stalker)
Imoen (Thief->Mage)
Jaheira (Fighter/Druid)
Anomen (Fighter->Cleric)
Jan (Thief/Illusionist)

Are there any severe flaws I should know about in this setup? I remember that I'm using a mod that restricts fighter/druids to studded leather or less (was this the case in pencil-and-paper 2E?), so using Jaheira as a frontline is a bit iffy. Of course, between CHARNAME and Anomen...

If fighter/druids ARE supposed to be able to wear metal armor, then there's a question of whether Aerie would serve better than Anomen.

Ok.

i've done the undead hunter. game always seems to have more undead than anything else.

Why Valgar over someone less squishy? he can't wear heavy armor, means sure he can sneak and backstab but so could Jan.

You could use Minsc or Keldorn, Or Mazzy or Korgan. I'm just trying to see the roll he serves in your army.

Imoen, functionally identical to Nalia and you get Nalia alot earlier considering you have Jan to be your thief.

never really been hellishly impressed with Jahiera. she works its just druid weapons are rather limited, her prof points take a while to get her to dual wield and if you go for that shes stuck using clubs for a while. if you get her defensive with hardiness and the Divine Shield spell or whatever its called at the first rank of spells she can take hits

cast certain spells on amonen he can take it to your front line just fine with a flail of ages

Jan of course can solo anything with his epic spike traps

I assume you're using Nalia until you get Imoen?

The only problem I see is who going to get the Shadow Dragon Scale? With your mod, both Jahiera and Valygar are going to want it. You'll pick up the White Dragon Scale in ToB but that's a long way off and none of the other armors are comparable. I can't remember if the green dragon armor from SoD transfers in.

I suppose Jahiera can use Barkskin spells, but the duration sucks on it and it's a pain to keep casting it (a manageable one, but 100 hours in a chronic one). I don't have my 2nd Ed. books anymore, but as I recall the Druid restrictions were that armor and weapons had to be natural* and Druids could wear/fabricate Ironwood plate armors and the like. So something like Ankheg Plate Armor would be fine, but chainmail would not.

*I don't know why leather is considered natural and metal is not. Leather is chemically treated hide and metal is smelted ore, what makes one more synthetic than the other? They're both sourced from natural ingredients. The studs in studded leather are metal, is there a certain % metal that can be in armor before it's considered unnatural? Is there a Druidic standards association that goes around certifying these tihings? Inquiring minds want to know.

Actually, the reason I wanted Valygar was because I was under the impression there was a full-scale romance mod for him (q.v. the original plan for him to be romanceable), and I thought my player-character would be better matched to him, than to Anomen or Haer'Dalis. So chalk it up to pure role-play. (I know, I know, a straight cis male who favors playing female characters as a rule is at least somewhat unusual. At least it maintains a slight divide between myself and CHARNAME. I think of this as matchmaking rather than wish fulfillment, anyway.) I can't seem to ferret out a full-scale one in the first place, though; the Romantic Encounters mod only maintains his romance to the close of SoA, apparently. The rest of the fussing (q.v. Anomen) was an attempt to have at least two tankers, which I thought was the minimum requirement. Did it become three when I wasn't looking?

Role-playing is also why I put Imoen in, rather than Aerie or Nalia. Why abandon her? But beyond her and (maybe) Valygar, I'm open to tactical decisions.

{sigh} Being prepared for everything is not proving to be easy...

So like some form of fan mod?

the romanceable characters are Amonen, Dorn, Rassad and Hexxat for a lady. God knows. Fan Romance mods are pretty cancer but if you enjoy it by all means.

Maybe get a Saerlith mod. should work with some sloppy Paladin on Paladin action.
