Solo Cleric/Mage versus Twisted Rune
Sorry, I don't have any game recording software, so no vid just a story. I wanted to try this early so I could get the Staff of the Magi. I was level 9 Cleric/10 Mage when I made my attempt. My Ferret familiar had Pickpocketed a scroll of Protection from Undead from one of the guards at the Council building, so that would keep Shangalar off my back. Plus, this way the rest of the group doesn't appear until he dies.

I cast 3 Skull Traps near where Vaxall would spawn and then proceeded to attack Shangalar. Once I got him near death, I used an Oil of Speed and then cast Cloudkill where Layene would show up. After dealing the killing blow to Shangalar, I drank a potion of invisiblity before running back to the entrance alcove. Not only did the Cloudkill disrupt Layene's casting of True Sight (blasted cheater, she's a Conjurer and shouldn't be able to cast that) it killed her. The Skull Traps detonate, killing Vaxall. Poor weaponless, unarmored Revanek fell to my attacks. Buffed myself with Holy Power and Righteous Magic. Shyressa kept running around, so I had to use Animate Dead a few times to keep her in place so I could attack her and hit her with some spells.

All in all, this turned out to be a fairly easy fight and I now have my Staff of the Magi. Plus, with Protection from Undead still active, I took out the nearby Elemental Lich. Off to do the Planar Sphere quest so I can get my Stronghold, and it's only day 3.

What a lovely C/M success story, glad to see other players picking up on 'em!

I usually leave Twisted Rune & Kangaxx last (until hitting Chapter 3), but as you demostrated it's definitely doable almost right after Chapter 1.

Yeah, all I had done before this was the Circus quest, picking up the Cloak of the Sewers, the Copper Coronet/Slaver Stockade, and killing the Lich at the Crooked Crane in case I needed any of the wands it has. I had cast Improved Invisibility before entering the tomb. Hit him with Ashideena and he goes hostile. His Spell Trigger activates and I cast True Seeing to get rid of his Mirror Images. He casts Time Stop and...nothing. No Meteor Swarm, no Gate. It wears off and I attack him with Melf's Minute Meteors to get through his Improved Mantle and he just sits there until he dies.

And of those three days, I spent one resting. I managed to do everything mentioned above up through the first half of the Stockade before I had to head back and rest so I could take on the Wizards and the last of the guards. Once before the Lich, and then again to get my spells set for the Twisted Rune.

Silly me, I was so busy pickpocketing that scroll, along with the Ring of the Ram, that I never actually talked to Tolgerias about the Planar Sphere quest. Too bad I need to kill Valygar for it.
