Pit Fiends and Glabrezu not giving XP :(
Because I don't like Dorn and decided that I don't also want to play Monk I just started over. I try to keep up my party to minimum by making Fighter/Thief and making Core BG 2 Evil Party without the ones from EE. However, because I really wanted to have Katana I started with ++ For Katana and after leveling a bit I hit Guarded Compound.

What was my surprise that the Glabrezy did not gave me XP upong killing him. And given how hard I killed it I expected a reward. Then I decide to do the Lich quests. Went straight for Daystar, killed the lich, who also summoned pit fiend. I slay the Pit Fiend and what was my surprise... no XP either. The secon lich also summoned Fiend but for some reason casted Maze on his pit and I could not test if it gives XP or not.

you don't get XP from summons, so of course the pit fiends gives no XP.

Yeah, one of the enhancements of the enhanced edition :)

summons never gave XP in any edition.

the glabs spawned by demigorgon used to, unsure about the other in the guarded compound, never noticed an issue there.

They did in the old versions, when BG came out. I can remember myself leveling chars with the "Gate" spell, slaying Demons, in the lack of an EEkeeper, when i wanted to try out stuff.

"Summoned" monsters gave no XP, "gated" monsters did.

yeah, gated monsters are a different beast than summoned monsters. They're ignore basically everything that normally removes summons, since they're technically actually there in the flesh, instead of being a conjured body that the summoned spirit is simply piloting for the duration.

(though you generally aren't supposed to get xp for such things since the fact that the enemy COULD cast gate and call something, is already figured into the summoner's xp value).

The actual problem with gated demons isnt the XP though, it is the fact that every enemy caster who gates in a demon will get immediately killed by him (perhaps liches wont get killed but they will still waste most of their spells and time on them). I dont remember this being a problem in the original but I may be wrong.

you have to be protected from Evil or the Demon can attack you (though he might not do so until everyone else is dead depending on who he decides to target first). That applies to everyone and is a feature of all demon summoning spells.

You can actually protect your whole party from evil and ignore basically every demon in the game, as long as you don't attack them first (which voids the protection)

The only mage i recall never having that risk was the one carrying the staff of the magi since they're permanently protected from evil. However they can potentially tag the demon with aoe spells during fight and lose their protection effect. Or might get killed when the demon start lobbing aoe effects and the mage is too close.

Just tried it out, gated demons don't give XP anymore. Not sure if it is a bug or intended.
