the glabs spawned by demigorgon used to, unsure about the other in the guarded compound, never noticed an issue there.
They did in the old versions, when BG came out. I can remember myself leveling chars with the "Gate" spell, slaying Demons, in the lack of an EEkeeper, when i wanted to try out stuff.
(though you generally aren't supposed to get xp for such things since the fact that the enemy COULD cast gate and call something, is already figured into the summoner's xp value).
You can actually protect your whole party from evil and ignore basically every demon in the game, as long as you don't attack them first (which voids the protection)
The only mage i recall never having that risk was the one carrying the staff of the magi since they're permanently protected from evil. However they can potentially tag the demon with aoe spells during fight and lose their protection effect. Or might get killed when the demon start lobbing aoe effects and the mage is too close.
