Can I go back to Chapter 2-3 quests?

It just didn't seem right to leave Imoen rotting with the Cowled Wizards while I adventured all over. Not something my protagonist would do. So, I went to get her as soon as I raised the money to pay off Gaelan Bayle. But it now seems I am on a linear track to the end of the game. Will I ever get the chance to go back to do the quests to Imnesvale and rescue Haer'Dalis?

Yes, but it will be a while. You will need to do Brynnlaw/the Asylum, the Sahuagin City (optional but I highly reccomend going there), and the Underdark (which is rather lengthy) before you can return.

Thanks! I just finished breaking out of Spellhold, but I didn't want to do all that and then find I had to go back to a previous save game in Athkatla to do the sidequests and then return to do Brynnlaw-Asylum again ... okay, I'm off to Fishtown. Thanks, again!

It's an important role-playing decision indeed, but some of the NPC companions recommend being careful and taking preprations for Imoen's rescue. Collecting a bit more gold, getting better equipment and levelling up more can be a good decision.

Note though, that in The Underdark alone you gain more than three million XP per full party, and afterwards there are pressing matters that also give a bad feeling, if doing many side-quests first. Nevertheless, you can return Athkatla and its surroundings and also kill the dragons, if you haven't done that before.
