How to deal with Cultists?
Is there a way to eliminate Cultists amongst my survivors BEFORE they inevitably betray me as i'm sure they're going to?

Or a way to "cure" them of their cultism, or otherwise keep them loyal in case a survivor I actually like goes cultist on me?

The cultist perk can be removed, same goes for the devout perk.

To get rid of the cultist perk you need to ban the chosen one by policy.
The survivor with the cultist perk should be isolated to prevent further "infection".
Then the trigger to remove the cultist perk has a chance to kick in.
So you at least have the chance to regain your survivor before he kills himself,
if it fails, meh most of you guys killed them on first sight anyway.

(Having no churches can trigger the removal of devout.)

The way to permanently remove the cultist trait from your entire fort is as follows:

1. In Hope, tell Jesse you don't want to deal with the cult violently, then meet with the cult and do everything favourable to allowing the cultist trait to spread
2. When you have 50% cultists, Cassandra will let you enter the lab without a fight.
3. After you meet Clark meet with Cassandra (you may need to blow up the lab first though, not clear on this part). You'll get a page where you confront her about the lab.
4. Shortly after this Cassandra and the cult will all kill themselves and your fort will be scared straight and the cultist trait will be gone.

What I do is assign the Cultists to a church, that way they become devout. It decreases my happiness a bit, but its a small price to pay for keeping my best engineer.

And I also keep the cultists around the skeptics of my group, that way it doesn't spread.

I ban the worship of The Chosen Ones in my forts whenever it becomes an option. Whenever they take over a church in my fort I demolish it and replace it with a bar. As soon as I have the manpower I actively work to WIPE THE CHOSEN FACTION FROM THE FACE OF THE WORLD. After that I do my best to isolate the cultists away from everyone.

It causes occasional happiness drops while the cultist is forbidden from worshipping and another massive happiness drop when the cultist gives up on Chosen worship but it eventually goes away on its own.

The only problem with not letting cultist spread, is that there is 2 achivements where you need to use cultist's
"Clear", have 50% or your survivors become cultists
"Jonestown", Completely infect the Dahlias with your cultists

I don't know how to infect the Dahlias, but it must be some sort of mission you start getting when you have 50% cultists (I think)
But since I always isolate devout and cultist survivors, so they don't spread, I don't know (I make all religious survivors into builders and make them chop trees)
Maybe you get a "leader perk choice" after the quest line, but I don't know, and since I don't like cultists, i'm not going to try.
The same with having 50% or your survivors addicted, never tried it.
Religion is a disease, don't let it spread.

If someone else is going to try it, could they please tell if you get a "leader perk choice" for doing it?

Do churches not give as high a happiness boost as bars? Because I figured that the devout double bonus to happiness gave it more weight than relaxing in a bar.

I hope eventually we can use schools as reeducation camps to forcibly convert our people into the correct ideologies. Secular Communist Anarchism is the one and only path. All others are wrong.

I cant remember which camapign map it is exactly. one of the last ones. The Cult of the Chosen infects your team and it starts spreading fast. the Dahlia leader warns you that she had a bad experience where the cult almost took over her faction and warns you to clamp down on it ASAP. Shortly after that, if you keep letting it spread, you eventually get the option to start sending your cultists to preach to the Dahlias.

If memory serves I think it's the mission where you need to find the underground base in Chosen territory. The only way to get access is either wipe out the chosen, or let the cult spread in your base and then start turning the Dahlias with it when it gets high enough to do so. I THINK. I might be remembering wrong.

yes it can they will create their own church in your fort and keep spreading. it's happened to me on many skirmish plays. you have to get rid of all of your churches.
