gave them a survivor and then bought them food twice (with low food stocks)
Thank you so much
It might be possible that my alliance with another faction is preventing this from unlocking, but I also have the fast aging mod active in my game.
Do any of you have any mods in your game?
To add to my question of mods in a game, does anyone remember any of the ongoing circumstances at all when they got this achievement? Such as:
-City in which the player earned this achievement.
-Alliances with other factions.
-Person sent to visit with the Pig Farmers. (Was it the main character or somebody else?)
Both runs: Put capital cannibal punishment into the constitution. Cozy up to the pigfarmers, but never ally them.
Run 1: Loaded an old save on the map. Sent them a survivor via quest. A while later I got the BBQ event. These two should have been enough under the guide I was working with. At this point I started endlessly grinding. I had sacrificed 8-10 people, had the BBQ event twice and bought more than thousand units of food (usually their whole stock, often the day after sacrificing someone, almost always when I had a full stockpile as well though) when I finally gave up after two hours of grind.
Run 2: Loaded an old save from the end of city 4 and generated a new city 5. Randomly got the BBQ event before I even managed to the sacrifice quest. Nothing. Finally they asked for someone and I handed them over. I unlocked a farming tech the same day, so I had room for food. Then I immediately went and bought 60 units of food (not their whole stockpile, in case it mattered). Nothing again. By that point I had never closed the game or loaded, so it's not just a bug in tracking progress either.
Is it completely random? I'm honestly out of ideas and hesitant to sink another two hours into a pointless grind. Having read dozens of forum threads and guides, I honestly don't think anyone actually knows what triggers the achievement. I randomly got the 10k zombies achievement during run 2, so loading an old save file doesn't seem to bar you from doing achievements.
So I can say now with confidence:
What has to happen before is still unclear. In my successful run I had the BBQ event randomly. Then I got the quest to hand over one of my guys which I did. Immediately afterwards I bought 60 units of food. The next cycle I did a different quest and bought 48 units of food. Then the achievement triggered.
Suspected contridbuting factors:
Again, I have a looooot of time into this game overall and this is the only playthrough, ever, where I've been able to choose the option to lie about eating people while recruiting. Any other time it's always said truth--we've never eaten people. So that's how I figured I may have finally become a filthy cannibal.
HOWEVER---before i went to abbotsford, I did a 1400 turn run in chilliwack, by far my longest ever, bc I'm still trying to get the many of us achievement and I had 85 people. I also got the option to lie to people about being a cannibal in this playthrough, but the achievement didn't pop. Neither did the many of us achievement even though I had 105 people.
What I learned from this---DO NOT PLAY IN OFFLINE MODE, YOU WILL NOT GET THE ACHIEVEMENT. even loading an earlier save and switching to online won't help--i had to go to a whole new map. and I also don't know if all that eating in chilliwack carried over at all to the next town
0. ("Challenging" difficulty) // haven't tried other difficulties
1. Story mode -> city Trail. There are only Pig Farmers and very small city.
2. As soon as you get capitol up, destroy all your farms or rebuild them into smth else.
3. When food stock gets to zero, start farming the achievement just by talking with Pig Farmers. Got it on my first try - they gonna ask if you could send someone to work for them (not return the certain man iteration).
4. Then and only then buy food from them. If it doesn't work - delete the file , redo everything till this moment and give it a few seconds before buying food.
5. Enjoy
Hope that was helpful. Good luck!
1. Quick Play - Epic size map; all 11 factions
2. Eliminated Chosen Ones, Rotten, and the biker gang (shouldn't matter)
3. Ally everyone else except Pig Farmers
4. Found Pig Farmers early and sent Leader every time available to both talk and trade
5. Bought food whenever possible
6. Didn't get the sacrifice person until like Day 200 or something (frustrating)
7. Got that even like twice
8. Always bought food right after sacrifice (actually after every Talk regardless of sacrifice)
9. Around Day 350 finally got Backyard BBQ event; still no Achievement
10. By this point map was stable, so just put it on the fastest speed and talked+traded every time available. I also put rations at Double and destroyed some farms to get to a sustainable deficit so I could always buy food.
11. Around Day 650, finally got the sacrifice event again, still no achievement
12. Finally Day 714 got sacrifice event two more times, achievement popped after sacrifice (before trading for the food)
Some thoughts:
- I noticed that the sacrifice event always showed the Leader I sent and a random person. But if I sent someone with the Leader, it seemed to always show that person as the one to sacrifice. So if you want to make sure who to sacrifice always send them with the Leader on the diplomatic mission.
- Since the achievement popped after the sacrifice, not after buying food, I'm not convinced buying food necessarily helps. Unless it was just lucky timing that the eating of the food I'd bought previous finally ticked over some hidden counter that triggered the achievement.
- Because it took longer (more events, buying over 1000 food from them over 714 days) than others reported, I wonder whether there is some correlation between how many people you have. Kinda like the 50% Cultist achievement, which you can easily count. Maybe there is a hidden counter for how many of your people have eaten human meat. Those that report completing it sooner or with fewer sacrifice events maybe had fewer people overall therefore got to the hidden percentage sooner? By the time I ended I had 132 people so maybe that's why it took so long to trigger?
Underrated post. Got this achievement first try using this method!
