Has anyone ever done impossible on a fresh start?
I seen one video of it but it must of been on an old, old build where there was hardly any zombies at start (or it was modded).

I had good starts but I ended up having to turtle without finding new people fast enough.

It's all about luck.

First, you need soldiers. You can have them scrub out the zombies at your walls nonstop. This makes the base safer and increases their skill. If you get a disproportionately small number of soldiers, you're screwed, start over.

Second, you need luck. Beeline to a school and turn everyone into a soldier except one builder and one scavenger. Leader is nice, but optional. If you don't have a +leader item or your leader's stat is too low, just hang the sense of it and get no leader.

Once you have 9001 soldiers, the game is effectively over. You can use the bare minimum you need to secure your base, while sending the rest out to level up on the zombies at your walls. The builder will get your farms done in a hurry, and the scavenger will get more food out of farms once you're run out of stuff to pick off the ground.

Do you have to start the game as a soilder for main character?

How to do you find soilders early?

An argument can be made for police officer (easier clearing, but when you run out of ammo, you're screwed), or builder (half material cost is OP).

You find soldiers by getting lucky. When you recruit people, they have a chance to be a soldier.

Soldiers are important because they're the only ones that get better at killing zombies the more you do it, making early game defense important. The main character does *not* need to be a soldier because s/he's going to gain defense power as you kill zombies no matter which starting profession you pick.

How do you get to recruit people? I mostly get a chance to go on 1 mission before I'm forced to turtle like crazy.

Teach me more!! I been trying to do this for a week!

-Start by playing on real time instead of turn based mode, if you're not doing it already. Every second counts, and spending two days on a task that takes 1.4 days is tantamount to suicide.
-Don't be afraid to give up squares. You can simply clear out the zombies after losing it, then rebuild it. This is where construction worker's half material cost is OP.
-You have a massive horde outside your walls, but they could be there for days before attacking. Instead of tying up two soldiers, waiting for the onslaught (or worse, sending your guys out there to kill them and taking 7 days to do it), simply clear out two other areas and rebuild those. Lose one square, get two (AND increase the power of your soldiers!). This goes double if it's not even a 90% chance to lose the square.
-SCOUT SCOUT SCOUT. If you found a leader/engineer, make him scout. If you don't have a leader, scouting gives your scavengers experience. If you don't need them to acquire materials and food, have them scout.

Damn. I did it again. I Seem to forgot to reset the story saves so I went for it a second time. After all that practice, it's not that hard. I feel all God like after that training because the next missions are a cake walk compared to the 1st.
