For people just playing - Extra hints that the tut misses and known bugs (some workarounds)
For the basics, start with this great guide by The GateKeeper

And I strongly advice you start on 'easy' difficulty so you never lose your stuff in a hard to reach place.

EDIT: I have put all this info in a guide. Check the guides section.

To start off, I think Darkout is a great underrated game. Yes it has bugs and yes the dev should probably have taken the Early Access path. But no one is perfect. :-). The latest patch already fixed a lot of bugs, but some persist. I hope these will get fixed in the future.

KNOWN BUGS
You will run in to them in the beginning (there may be some more)
1. You place something and it's 'stuck'. When you pick it up the log will say 'cannot pickup #1'. You can actually force this bug by pausing the game while dragging a placable object. When you keep holding the mousebutton and unpause, you will have dropped the object but can still place it. When you do, you cannot pick it up again but will have 'cloned' the object because you can pick the dropped one up again. As far as I know, there is currently no way to remove the bugged object. It will most often work however.

2. Datamodule and/or other pickups do not spawn anymore breaking the quest line. This happened to me twice in a world. WORKAROUND: Create another world, take some build stuff with you (wood or stone), a bed and your signal receiver. (the yellow thing you start with). Create a simple base with just a bed and the receiver, sleep one night and in that world the needed modules and quest stuff pickups should spawn.

3. Dragging an object from inventory to the hotbar drops it sometimes. This happens every now and then, no known workaround.

4. Dragging an object from inventory makes it sometimes disappear entireley. This happens on very rare occasions (luckily). The autosave while dragging is one of the causes. This can be very annoying, especially when it is a very valuable object. No known workaround.

5. Elevators can be buggy, sometimes when going up your character will spasm and fall off or get stuck in a wall, you can get unstuck easily by just walking though. Don't rely too much on them for now.

BEGINNER'S HELP:
1. Help creatures are spawning in my base! Either you did not completely close off your backwall with crafted blocks or there is not enough light in your base.

2. How to fire weapons? The bullets/arrows need to be placed in your hotbar one slot below the weapon that uses the ammo.

3. Do I need to keep all stuff in my inventory while crafting? No, stuff in 'containers' like closets or chests in the vicinity of the crafting stations will automatically be used. You can keep your inventory nice and tidy.

4. How to route power through floors? Cut out the floor, make a powerline from socket on the floor above to the floor below. (not the solid red one but the loose one.) Place the floor piece back over the powerline. When you place the socket right under the ceiling make sure to connect the cable coming from above on the bottom side of the socket, else the cable will be removed when placing the floor back.

5. Do I need a lot of sockets? Basically each floor needs one socket, it has 4 exits, but you can attach many devices on each exit.

6. My workbench has no power and to build a generator I need it! The combinator also is a basic power source. Connect it to a socket and connect your workbench to the same socket. Voila.

Just wanted to share this with the community, hopefully the DEV can sticky this. If you have any more starter hints and known bugs/workarounds please post them!
