Performance issues high end system
I just want to start by saying that I abolsutely love this game. It's given me adrenaline rushes I haven't experienced in a long time while trying to keep pace with the AI.

One of the things that bothers me is that I can't maintain a steady 60+ fps. Once more units show up and more missiles start filling up the screen, my fps drops to 40, sometimes even 20 occasionally and will then hover around 40/50. It also will happen at any graphical setting. When paused and initially changing the settings, the framerate will sky rocket to 144 or well above 200 if uncapped, but once I unpause and face the direction of the chaos it dips down into the 40s again. This leads me to believe that it may be something to do with how the CPU is being utilized, but that's just a hunch.

I've browsed the forums a bit and seem to come to the integrated graphics issue, which I'm unfortunately not having (it's disabled in the bios).

using stat unit gets me this.

Main Menu:
Frame: 2.94
Game: 1.5
Draw: 4.5
GPU : 6.9

In game (Act II mission 8):
Actually this fluctuates heavily, but frame, draw, and gpu consistently stay equal and well above Game.
Frame: 18
Game: 6
Draw: 18
GPU: 18

My specs:

Intel i7-6600k OCed 4.5ghz
GTX 970 EVGA FTW (custom BIOS enabling 150% power usage, no other OC applied)
16 gb ddr4 RAM
Windows 10 OS

I personally feel like my rig should be able to handle this game without a single hitch, but that's not the case. Hopefully this is an easy fix on my end, but if it's not, I'll provide whatever I need to maybe improve some optimizing overall in future releases.

Thanks in advance!

Well I've been doing my own bit of work and have been able to decrease the drops by a significant margin.

For starters, I went into UDKEngine.ini and under [TextureStreaming] changed the "PoolSize" and "MemoryMargin" to 4096 and 100 respectively.

Next, I found "bDisablePhysXHardwareSupport" in UDKEngine.ini and set it to "False" (only recommended if you have an Nvidia GPU).

Then I changed a few things in UDKSystemSettings.ini. First thing I did was set the LODBias to 0 for every value that was -1. This generally improves performance, and with AF set to 16 it's not necessary to have it set to -1. Setting this to 0 also eliminates flickering of objects that are up close.

Then I began turning on the settings optimized for nvidia GPUs. The first is setting "ApexGRBEnable" True. Then directly under that, I doubled the amounts listed for "ApexGRBGPUMemSceneSize" and "ApexGRBGPUMemTempDataSize" to 256.

I also set motionblur to false because I don't like it, but I don't think it hits performance.

I need to do a bit more research for UDK but my goal is to optimize the settings to take advantage of more RAM and VRAM available with higher end cards, but for now I'm quite happy with how things have turned out.

Thank you for researching this. Can you tell me how much things improved after you made these adjustment?

Substantially, in some areas. The most notable is in act 1 mission 5 (Kasnaya Kometa) during the fight against the Frame without boosters. Before the changes I'd consistently see drops to about 25 fps; after the changes I don't think it dropped below 60.

Note that my changes are using the "Very High" settings as a baseline.

Just put new patch online.

Thank you for your feedback and advice in this thread. The config fine tuning is now there for everyone!
3.6Gb update today....

..nice one Devs.

P.S.
The game worked perfect for me on a 2013 GTX780
