Alternatives to Meteor Destruction on new map
I've played the new map twice and while the locale of floating islands is awesome, the meteor mechanic really sucks. Its obvious that the deposits have been separated around many different islands meaning that you can't just have a few major locations in order to make production lines, I ended up having to make 6 different bases and plan out what to make in different locations. Thanks to that large Iron thing being required for 3 different products, I have to make 3 different large iron things on different islands.

But the meteor annihilation event is a real downer. Yes you can keep playing afterwards, but dying shouldn't be part of regular gameplay, and the reload mechanic to avoid the effects of death is a real cop out. There should be alternatives to this mechanic.

1 - You can escape the effects of the meteor by taking off in your ship to wait it out in a safe area.
2 - The main island you spawn on is safe, but the meteors can take out other islands which might have production facilities on it - and since they have higher tier materials for further production it doesn't kill your entire game - the main island still produces your bare minimum materials for setting up tier 1 type bases to restart production. The planet analyser map lets you know what will be taken out so you can prepare. Later meteors can push the island back to where it was, but completely bare of the facilities. This forces you to distribute bases around the place.
3 - The meteor takes out different types of buildings where it hits, such as warehouses, power facilities, etc.

Creating the rocket base will help you avoid these mechanics.

You could also create a tier 2 "rocket facility" where you feed it water, refined uranium and perhaps another product to continually repel asteroids. It could be a large scale laser to avoid having to justify feeding it different types of materials to materially create rockets. This would be another fun thing to create to further cement your position here, stopping you from having to create MORE rockets after each launch which would really prevent this place from being suitable for human habitation. A long term solution for a long term habitat for humanity.

I didnt want to play this world as a rush type game is not my thing but I thought i would give it a go.

It is a lovely world and the idea of spreading the resources makes it great.....for a game you are not rushing to complete.

Once I got the final countdown I lost interest in racing to complete it, its just not my thing.

I dont mind the idea, I think the destruction makes an option for people to play different game types, some people like making money so a trading system, some people like a 'rush' type game, some people just like the idea of growing.

I think in the end, apart from ocean world, you could choose your scenario on the different worlds and mix them.

So to start out the first selection of a map would be:

- Sandbox (no threats)
- Financial (aim to beat AI competitors with some kind of bankrupcy as the fail)
- Flood (destroys some structure)
- Meteor (game ending scenario)

Then for whichever map you select you can choose the levels of difficulty by mixing the selections.

You could even go further to select how frequent or soon the event happens so you can push the meteor impact out to a point where its part of the game to create a defensive missile, but is so far in the future its on Easy Mode.

To be honest, as I have said, I have stopped now the countdown is on so am not bothering the rocket defence so cannot comment on your ideas for the rocket defence, they could still apply to my above suggestion, if the meteor existential threat is constant and there are improvements like you suggest I am sure the devs will take it on board.
