Snapping / construction planning
Am I the only one who has issues with precise factory construction? There's no visual cue if I am positioning spliter / merger in line with machine, if machine centres to another machine and so on. Hitting correct position is very difficult, and as a Satisfactory player I was trying to build modular factory. Grid snapping is not too useful, as some machines have cross-hair offset from centre, making it a nightmare to position them . Tried this on platform, block and ground, same result. Only way was to stand on something and aim down, aligning machine to splitter position. Also why spliters / mergers have different input / output height than machines?
Building main bus is a pain of it's own too, almost impossible to centre belts from mergers. Only way I found was to use a block to rise the merger in main bus and then another block outside the main bus, with another spliter / merger. Works, but is really painful to execute. Also, the size of splitters / mergers is too big, and because input / output holes have no visual aid related to the ground, it's a guesswork every time. And I cannot drive belt from main bus to station, because it moves "from" me regardless of entry point type I used to attach it to.

Or maybe I am missing something?

Dear developers, if You try to create a clone of Satisfactory / Factorio, please bear in mind that construction of large factories is inherited part of those games, we need good and simple tools to do so. Struggling with organised belts settings is something really killing the fun.

I have the same problem, should be fixed soon, until then I will play the original

I was hoping for some sort of way to line them up as well, it is a bit of a pain. I gave up and just make outpost bases with major conveyor spaghetti madness going on in those areas.

You can use your Drone (V) for placing stuff. This will allow you position the drone above to line up with the buildings to help with alignment. Doesn't always work they way you want it though.

just bumping this because dealing with splitters, conveyors and machines are just super annoying right now.

The splitters/mergers are just way too big for the size of the machines and conveyor systems. You either end up having to space everything out way too much, or you have this crazy spaghetti that ends up looking awful. Combined with the size of the warehouses and other buildings, and the relatively small land space (ocean at least), it becomes a hassle very quickly.

I kinda wanted to make a big factory where i would automate most stuff but yea considering how big those are, a decent size factory would look awful in this game considering how much space you would need.

Just an fyi, something I've found with the new planet, as long as a small part of the warehouse is on the land, you can place it and it will raise the land up, so it gives you more space to build stuff, you could always place one then delete it to create yourself a flat extention.

1. There's a visual build grid.
2. Where the grid is hard to see (mostly for very large buildings), use the wood/cement blocks to build alignment markers.

[edit]
Disagree on the size of the splitters/mergers, they're fine as they are, IMHO.

The size of some of the factory pieces are large but everyone needs to stop trying to make this a clone of Satisfactorio. If you want that game then go play it. Otherwise, realize this is not the same game, and the dev has their own vision for how things will look.

If this changes later then it changes, but the main complaint in this thread seems to be "this isn't Satisfactorio v2" and that's just silly.
