[FAQ] How does Eden Crafters compare to other games?
We often hear players asking how Eden Crafters compares to games like Satisfactory or The Planet Crafter. It’s only natural to wonder what sets this game apart, just as Satisfactory was compared to Factorio or The Planet Crafter to Subnautica when they launched.

Eden Crafters was developed using a custom, voxel-based engine that allows for unique gameplay. The game takes place on massive planets (up to 144 km²) that you can fully transform, using unique terraforming vehicles.

Every game has its unique features and shared influences, so here’s some information to help you decide if Eden Crafters is for you:

Satisfactory

While Satisfactory emphasizes complex factory optimization, Eden Crafters offers a more accessible approach to automation. There are plenty of machines and automation features, but the focus is equally on transforming the planet, with the added satisfaction of watching the environment improve.
Instead of hostile creatures, you'll face environmental challenges like giant tidal waves or blizzards.

The Planet Crafter

Where The Planet Crafter focuses on exploration and scavenging from shipwrecks, Eden Crafters leans more toward automation, factory, and base building. The terraforming system is also quite different, using a voxel engine for real terrain alterations. Terraforming devices have local effects, and you can really shape your own "Eden" the way you want.

We share common roots with Miju Games (The Planet Crafter): both of us were part of Toulouse Game Dev, a French indie developer association. It’s no surprise we have some shared inspirations. We even worked with the same 3D artist, who created exclusive models for both games as well as non-exclusive ones available to all developers.

Some players have compared the first minutes of resource gathering to The Planet Crafter, but we’ve been using similar systems since our first game, Alchemist’s Awakening (2016), which was also about crafting, terraforming, and creating life.
What's important is what comes after: the longer you play, the more you’ll see how different the games really are, and it's OK to like both!

Minecraft

The “Crafters” in the title is a nod to Minecraft, the game that inspired us to start creating within this genre. We wanted to ensure endless creative possibilities for players, which is a core element of Eden Crafters.

Eden Crafters has been in development for years, and the custom engine has made it an even more challenging project. But the result is a unique addition to the genre, and this Early Access is just the beginning!

Great explnations!!

I was thinking of buying the game but I need to know what game engine this game run on
Myst Oct 16, 2024 @ 7:46pm
I am not 100 % sure. But. This is how it was explained to me. It an Engine thing, and the similarities are Engine Assets that come with the engine they are using. They didn't steal anything, they are simply using the assets that came with the engine they paid for.

Edit: I have played hundreds of hour of Planet crafters and the only thing I have noticed that is similar is the cube housing and the mining on the ground small nodes ( which is in ALOT of games) but still it is different in so many ways. I don't blame the developers at all. I thank them for building a game in this genera, and to give it their own little twist to it. I am really looking forward to see where this goes.

Oh must have mist the part this is the team also behind Alchemist awakening, sure is a plus as I enjoyed that game a lot. Also nice to see a detailed response to the few mentioned games this one is compared with by others.

Thank you for clarifying many things in the gamers mind.

Thanks for the explanation. Perhaps my earlier post was a bit harsh about the comparisons, and I have wish listed the game. This actually sounds more my style than the other games it is compared to.

It is in the beginning stages but being able to achieve a proper layout is a little impossible with the way pipes and conveyors are constructed. The base building reminds me of the game Satisfactory The difference that makes Satisfactory stand out more is that you have way more control of the placement of transportation structures like Conveyor Belts and Pipes. Why Is there a default curve with these types of structures? It would be better if it were a straight line from point A to Point B. Satisfactory has conveyor poles that help better control where you want to place a curve or a turn. It it the same with pipes in Satisfactory they have pipeline supports to help placing turns or curves.

Also it is hard to build a base with any kind of efficient structure when you can't see from above and down to the base having the ability to build from that view. Satisfactory has a tower like structure early into the game to help you with this feet. Seeing this game seems to be going in the direction of more futuristic I would add a build construction ability for while piloting the drone and have that available earlier in the game.

Here are two things that could help with that:
- while laying a conveyor, press Alt for a straight line
- press V to deploy your Drone, and you can build from that view

Okay cool Something I did not know because there are no tutorials for this information, That may be something to look into. When creating new transportation items like Conveyor belts and pips. The shortcuts to straighten them out. also for any other type of object with a non obvious mode or setting.

Now do I have to hold alt or is it a toggle straight or curve thing?

Oh one more question, Is there any way to smooth the terrain while on a incline or decline? or in other words create a smooth slope?

Is there a place where I can submit a suggestion or two that might be able to make Eden Crafters just a little more interesting. I know you have a whole mix of Satisfactory and Planet Crafter but I also think by the designs of some of the structures you are looking to be just a little different than the two games I just mentioned.

It would be cool if pipes and conveyor belts were also available as individual blocks, like in Astro Colony, for example, for a more attractive placement of the lines. You can also connect the existing system to these to compensate for small inaccuracies (rotation, etc.).

I have dug a long tunnel and would like to lay cables there (conveyor belts and pipes) and pull a water pipe up almost exactly in the middle. This is not really possible with the current pipe system.

While the Alt key is useful for straightening up tracks and pipes there is still no way to make a 90-degree turn/bend without using the pipe hub. The bends in the pipes and track are so Irregular that they don't make much sense and end up making organization a lot harder to look clean and organized. Also, I don't think there is a way to elevate a pipe or track so you can build to go onto platforms or higher elevated surfaces. When they do connect to a higher connector it does so clipping through land or other objects on the surface in which the structure is placed upon.

These are easy fixes that you can eventually get to in the future by adding some type of track poles or Pipeline supports when you feel the correct time to do so of course.

I know this game is in Beta and Is not a complete game so I know these issues a more likely to be refined as it gets closer to full release.

That being said, I do like the game and see a lot of potential. I just hope the Pipe and Track placements and control get an upgrade sooner rather than later, but in the end, it is the developer's choice. It's not like these inconsistencies affect or prevent the operations of the structures' processes, so cheers to that.

Here is a link to my Google Drive album to display what Pipe and Conveyor belt control is capable of in the Game Satisfactory. These images are just basics but pipes and conveyor belts are capable of so much more in Satifactory. I hope in the future however long that may be that the pipes and conveyor belts in Eden Crafter have similar capabilities.

Thanks for the comparison! I love The Planet Crafter and I'd also love to see a game where I take a more active role in planning the terraformation. I enjoyed the demo and have the full game wishlisted!

Thank you for the comparisons. This game is unlike either, similar, but not the same at all.
Keep up the fantastic work. Looking forward to new planets, and maybe some rain, storms, ect. in the future.

The conveyors are my least favourite part, they are messy and difficult to change the height. A way to raise or lower them would be great, Satisfactory has this perfected.
