When they are empty, they disappear, you have to make new ones.

Really only need one anyhow, your goal should be to get to the other island and collect enough Uranium to make the nuclear cell, it has way more charge in it.

I put 3 cells in the ship, it gives me around 9 mn fly. I feel more secure and there is plenty of sulfur.

It recharges when landing on the ship platform, at least in the released version.

the ship landing platform is recharger also, just swap battery's with other vehicle to recharge them too.

there is a wall that you build in the vehicle hanger that charges the batteries

Or just switch your batteries with the ones in the spaceship on the platform.
