My Take On The Game
I like it!

I have only used the Mage thus far.

Do you have any tips to make things a bit easier?

For new players having a hard time I would recommend unlocking the priest early, he is one of the least skill-intensive classes. Learning to manipulate the enemy AI properly also helps a bunch, their pathing is very predictable.

1. Unlock the Priest - this tip was given to me by the dev himself, Priest is both strong and has healing. Very beginner friendly character.

2. Use corners and spikes to your advantage. Monsters go into spikes.

3. When leveling up the most important stats are attack speed, critical chance and bonus damage. You want to hit fast and hard, damage reduction and HP/MP regen are not so important (however when I can choose between +1 attack speed or +5 damage reduction, I pick the defensive upgrade) You should also focus on shop upgrades related to those stats.

4, For gold farming the "higher chance for treasure vault" shop upgrade is very good. For late levels the "critical hits destroy purple projectiles" is amazing.

5. At the beginning of every level go for bronze key, then silver key, then gold key, than clear the level 100% before going deeper. You need the EXP to survive on later floors. When the "scary creature" appears after some time, don't panic. It is slow and you can often dodge his attacks.

6. Destroy the nests that produce monsters as fast as posibble.

7. Don't open to many gates/cracked walls at once.

8. There is one level where the road to exit seem blocked - but there exist a teleporter that will help you find the way.

I just unlocked The Priest.

I wish the Grim Reaper could be removed in options.
With some practice and few meta upgrades you will be almost always clearing every floor before he shows up, sometimes even before the countdown starts.

Still, I would also like such an option, I appreciate customization. It could maybe come with some minor disadvantage, like Grim Reaper never shows up but you gain 10% gold less.

Agreed.

I'm just not fast.

About this - next month I'm planning to add an unlockable item shop to the game and one of the buyable items will allow you to stop or at least delay death from spawning, it'll just cost a bit of gold per run.

I might wait until then. He is definitely a thorn in my side.

That is something that should be in a roguelike at the start, its not like you have have a huge following on game now. You should probably give credit to the original gauntlet, that's what you did here lol. Looks good though, too bad its a roguelike way too many theses days.

A few other handy tips:
Stay faster than the enemies on your floor - Speed is an often overlooked stat that really helps when you have to run around a circle of enemies and of course in the treasure room getting more xp/treasure per run!.

For your main attack +ATT and +DEX are one in the same affect of your attack power, though you could argue factoring in things like Luck crits, Dex may be a little stronger of a stat. So for me I always look at all the options, Ill take a +3 DEX over a +3 ATT, ill also almost always take a +3,4 or 5 stat over +weapon level as they affect both primary and secondary attacks.

Dont pass up luck, crits can save you, especially when you get the upgrade in the shop to make them kill the purple projectiles.

Hitting an enemy OR spawner will 'stun' them from firing or producing more enemies for a couple seconds, use this to your advantage if you need to slow the enemy production down to penetrate a room thats respawning too quickly.

Consider buying the + mana/ + hp options before you splurge on the hp/mana regeneration stats, I think they are more handy personally.

Death is prettty slow, when he spawns, keep your cool, keep an eye on him but keep clearing for that all important treasure/xp until you get everything.

I think the hp/mp regeneration could use some buff. So far those are my least favourite stats. And yes +hp/+mp are pretty good. Now, with full regeneration when reaching new map, thanks to higher hp/mp I can be more aggresive and quicker during early floors :-)

Regen did get a bit of a buff a few updates ago to where leveling affects regen interval rather than amount (there used to be an invisible decimal for HP/MP), meaning levels now have a more immediate effect. That said, I'd say regen along with defense are generally more useful in the late-game and on curse modes, though spirit can be really good early on characters like the paladin.

Yes, MP regen felt good on Paladin and also on Rogue. But HP regen seems very slow. I understand that in this kind of games this is common that magic regenerates faster than health but personally I would like this difference to be not as big. Perhaps something like a Troll Necklace that doubles HP regenaration (to be bought in the unlockable item shop that you mentioned that will be added in future update) would be helpful here.

Update: As of V0.6 there is now an upgrade in the meta shop which delays death at the cost of lowering your bonus chance - the drawback can be also offset a bit with the treasure hunter upgrade.
