Controller not working in main menu

My controller works in game but not at the menu's. Annoying yes, but still possible. I'm using hardwired Xbox controller.

My Xbox series x controllers are connected via Bluetooth btw

The store page lists partial controller support, meaning the menus are mouse driven but the game itself can be played with a controller. I'm sure this will change in the future.

i have a switch controller that just gets placed as an Xbox for steam. I also can't get it to work in the menus. but it can bring up the pause menu. however in co-op, the menu is bugged and isn't intractable with for either player. and one MAJOR issue is the controllers aim stick is SUPER slow to turn. like. some parts would be near impossible because you turn to slow to see where you're going. but controller can't adjust it's sensitivity. only the mouse can change controls or sensitivity.
