It's a great time to jump in, the first expansion is coming out this month!
Otherwise some other good ones worth checking out:
Faeria
Infinity Wars (Haven't reviewed this one yet, but here's my referral code if you need it: CEOV5V)
I played through tutorial of Spellweaver. It's promising but because of small card pool, I have my doubts. I know the expansion is coming soon and maybe it's even better to start the game in its infancy, so you can see the progression.
I also played Kingdoms CCG but it's a one big p2w.
Gonna try get into Spellweaver, thanks for the answer!
I advise unlocking as many starter decks as possible early and switching around to play all factions and combinations thereof. I've seen people trying to repeatedly play the same deck and getting really frustrated about the counters.
Make sure to check out my guide where I linked a few useful resources to get started. You can also add me in-game, my nickname is listed in there.
Hearthstone (blizzard) - thought it was too basic and painfully slow to obtain cards so that wrecked it for me. But hey you can play it on your phone and it'll never shut it's servers down because blizzard is sturdy as hell. I think it has the highest budget of these games so if you're looking for something that will progressively improve, I trust in blizzard lots.
Magic duels / MTG cardgame IRL - I quit magic with the introduction of planeswalkers, I felt like new single impacting cards were too conditional and therefore a lot of RNG + whenever I played dual colours the mana system has still not changed while it's okay it's pretty easy to draw a bad hand and I think that is it's biggest downfall. The online version cuts out a lot of cards and a lot more cards are offered as a unique (single copy for each deck), feels a little clunky but it looks clean and it's probably not going to shut down any time soon. hint hint.
Duelyst - ♥♥♥♥ graphics but not to be dismissed, closest thing to duel of champions I can find. Lots of fun. You control your pieces like on a board cept you progress around the map like enter their side or kite them with ranged and stuff it's all good fun. Lots of mechanics that fit well in with their board. Lots of taunts, backstab, airdrop. Delay, rush, control tactics does it all very well.
Elder scrolls legends (bethesda) - Pretty much hearthstone 2.0, it's bethesda it's got beautiful graphics, a half attempt at a campaign story. 5 colours to choose from, they confused the hell out of me at first because none of them really seem to be as themed as say Black or white in magic but rather almost every colour has some form of kill spell, some set of common "keystones" which are basically like creature abilities etc. It features an arena mode that is pretty finely tuned and done up nicely. Has two lanes, a shadow lane and you start with 5 runes which break each time you lose 5 health and give you a card draw, kinda cool.
TL:DR I don't want to give an unbias opinion but I have tried infinity wars, it was junk. Only because someone mentioned it in an earlier post. I've pretty much been playing TCG's since high school so i've played most of the good ones.
2. Spellweaver
Spellweaver is a new game so it hasnt too much cards yet. That is good for new players. My personal opinion is: Spellweaver IS NOT a p2w game
Also, if you kind-of like the simplicity of Hearthstone but can't stand Blizzard's absolutely incompetent balancing, insistance on treating their players like idiots, and lazy overreliance on RNG as a substitute for strategy, try Star Crusade (which just came out of early access). It's literally Hearthstone in space but better.
I checked out Infinity Wars ages ago and didn't exactly love it, don't know how different it is now.
MTG 2015 was okay, though not free and not sure how strong the player base is.
Some potentially interesting ones I have on my radar but haven't really checked out yet include Faeria, Hex, and Chronicles: Runescape Legends.
--Oops.. can't believe I forgot about Duelyst, a fairly promising game.
Woops long delay in replying. The duel of the planeswalker games are alright, I have 3 of them. They're good for learning the game but you play with a fraction of the cards that you'd be able to play with in the real game. I'd suggest picking one up to see if you like what the game is about and then moving to the real cards if you do.
Also, I tried Elder Scrolls Legends for a couple weeks and just uninstalled it yesterday. It looks nice, sounds nice, and has a smooth UI but the card pool is tiny and the card mechanics are simple. Plus the prophecy mechanic is pretty much bullsh--- and the AI (solo arena) uses it to cheat like crazy. This is in addition to using multiple copies of the same legend and other ridiculously unfair advantages to make up for a weak AI. I would not recommend ESL.
I seriously love the Elder Scrolls game, and I am so happy that I finally decided to try it. I think there is a good chance you will be too, if you loved M&M the way I do!!
Also, I tried spellweaever based on this thread, and I didn't really like it at all.. way to much of a Magic the Gathering clone.. if you're looking for most SIMILAR to M&M go for Elder scrolls.
*Edit - another poster suggest "Duelyst" is most similar to M&M.. haven't tried that one, so maybe it is.. but I super love the Elder Scrolls game, so it's my recommendation for now.
Worry not, it's Early Access no more!
