WRC 4 not starting on Windows 8

As the title says I'm having trouble starting WRC 4 in windows 8 - when i start it up a dialogue box pops up saying that it is loading, then the dialogue box disappears and the game doesn't load. I've verified the games files with no change

it's literally just coming up with a dialogue box saying it's loading the game, then nothing happens

I'm not having that issue on Windows 8.1 on both AMD 7970's Crossfire and an Nvidia GTX 780Ti system's, current drivers from both companies.

Did you install a fresh copy of Windows 8? Have you upgraded to 8.1? What video card and drivers are you using? System specs? Require more information to help you...

Do you at least see the WRC 4 launcher? Have you tried these solutions in my Game Bugs and Support thread?

well i met this problem when my system was windows8, but i had updated to 8.1 and it still doesn't fix,...

I have the same problem, Win 8.1, GXT 780 TI, just get the launching window then it disappears without error and doesn't load... where is the DirectX update? (sure my machine is up to date though)

Runs fine on Win 8.1 Pro 64bit, at least for me.

Runs fine on Win 8.1 x64 as well. The DirectX update should automatically be installed by Steam when running the game for the first time. If not, get it from Microsoft's website (a simple google search for "directx 9 download" will be enough).

Yep I have installed the DX9 update, no luck. But I am starting to think it might be my display resolution 3840x2160.. seems this game only runs at FullHD, but my monitor won't even let me select that.. will have to cart the PC out to the TV and test.. I do get a crash event in the Windows Event Viewer.. that code seems to be a memory access violation.

Just updated to Windows 8.1. Now I can't launch this game despite have dxdiag 11.2 installed. WTF? This is exactly why I'm getting out of pc gaming.

The directx 9 fixed the issue for me (I was only able to get them to install during an install of Hawken, otherwise I just got the message that I had the newer directx 11 version.)

Uninstall,go for DiRT 3(complete Edition now) or even better DiRT RALLY(even if it is early access)
