[SOLVED] Game doesn't start, stuck at first time setup

So I just tried installing/playing the game for the first time. First time installation setup is happening, then it gets stuck at "Installing Microsoft DirectX for Windows (step 1 of 1)". I got windows 8 so I know i have directX (and dxdiag confirms that). I am logged in at Uplay (meh) so I assume that's not the problem (although it could be, who knows with ubisoft). Any ideas?

Probably a conflict with what steam's setup is trying to install. Just run all the game's secondary installers yourself and delete the installscript.vdf from the game's folder.

It seems that after the latest set of updates for windows was installed, the game works fine. Even though I can't offer any other hints to anyone facing this particular problem, I'll mark this as solved.

Doing that worked. It didn't even start the first time setup, just went right into the game. Other suggestions like restarting steam and computer did not work for me.
