Child of Light

[SPOILERS] Ending: "She forgot to talk to you"
I died during the final boss fight with Umbra, and when I ressurected, Aurora's mother had a yellow exclamation mark over her head, as if she had a quest or some dialouge. Unfortunately, I didn't get to talk to her, as I accidentally headed back through the portal to defeat Umbra.

After I defeated her and the game ended, I let the credits roll completely. After they were done, Igniculus and aurora's mother popped back into view. I think what they said was:

Igniculus: "I think my heart might make dew
But she forgot to talk to you!"
Mother: "She had more important things to do
To rule Lemuria, fair and true
Goodbye, Aurora"

When they'd finished speaking, the queen of light faded away, and the screen returned to Aurora at the shrine where she'd landed in Lemuria. The game had autosaved after I defeated Umbra, so I couldn't go back.

I hope to go through the game again, but did any of you get to talk to the mother before the end boss, or did you encounter this same ending?

I didnt die fighting Umbra. I dont think I had any chance to talk to Aurora's mother. From the point where Aurora was struck down by Umbra and dropped into the sea onward until I would fly up to and fight Umbra there were only cutscenes with me having zero control over Aurora. I got the same "She forgot to talk to you" line, and when I reappeared at the altar there was no trace of the mother.

I think talking to her is just triggering the boss fight.

Because when ever you get close enough to her to "interact" you are interacting with the trigger for the last boss fight.

If talking to the mother is just to trigger the final boss fight, what's up with the "She forgot to talk to you"? Perhaps you're right and it's just a teaser of some sort. Hrm.

If you talk to the Queen of Light, you go directly to the boss fight against Umbra. I did talk to Aurora's mother, beat the boss wihtout dying, and they still did the whole bit with "she forgot to talk to you" and "she had more important things to do".

I kinda put it down as rather mindless babbling. I don't want to be harsh to this game but I think there are several more lines which you don't need to pay too much attention to. It's drama and all. And some lines felt a bit made up only so they would make a rhyme. Story-wise I guess Aurora simply didn't say much of goodbye to her mother. She struck down Umbra and apparently right on went back to Austria. Maybe you can see it as a way of "moving on". She would kinda dismiss her father too because of her responsibility to save the Lemurians. Maybe the thing with her mother his similar. Earlier in the game she was saying she wanted to get back to her father or mother, now she seems more focused on the future. Your classic "Get over it" thing, basically.

yeah i had the same feeling. the ending felt rushed. i was expecting to go through another level or so to approach umbra. instead i was basically thrown at her.

Yeah, the ending did feel rushed. Perhaps she didn't get to say goodbye to either parent, and that is the point of it. I'm hoping on my next play through that I can die during the Umbra fight, be ressurrected, and then go on adventuring for a while/ finishing up the side quests so that the end doesn't feel so rushed.

My game crashed during the credits, so I ended up missing that scene. ):

That said, I would say it fits the tone of the entire game. Given that Child of Light is ultimately about loss and sacrifice, it only stands to reason that they add another thing to the vast list of things Aurora lost on her way to saving Lemuria.

I do hope that they make an additional DLC chapter or a sequel, though. A lot of things remain unanswered (as reading Confessions will reveal to you) and while the story of Aurora growing up is finished, the story of her life feels far from over.

You know, you can just flee from the final battle. You don't need to die.

So, when Aurora meets her mother, they have a dialog. In it, Aurora says "My heart is full, it is true. I have so much to tell you." Then she goes and fights Umbra, but never returns to chat with her mother. When I played it, I assumed that this is what they mean at the end when they say that Aurora forgot to talk to her mom.

theres a part missing from this thread,

after defeating umbra, she asks her friends to help her save her people in austria,
the go through the mirror, rally the austrians and usher them through the mirror into lemuria
roll credits
i think it wouldve been a little bonus incentive if beating ng+ resulted in an extended ending
where you get the typical, your all grown up, its your turn to rule, i can rest in piece now,
goodby, roll credits
