Game Crashing on startup
Hi everyone, I bought the game today, installed correctly along with Uplay, but as soon as I launch it, it crash saying that "Child of light has stopped working" . I have a very powerful pc with Windows 8 so for sure I met all the game requirements...what could it be? I also just found out there is no refund policy and it's quite annoying :(

Yes, the same thing is happening to me.
I hope it gets fixed soon

Crashed for me as well.

However, I was able to get the program to running by:

1. Setting EXE file to run as administrator
and
2. changing the Compatibility setting to Windows 8
and
3. Running the EXE file manually

Side notes:
A. On my computer the EXE is located in the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\games\Child of Light\" directory and the EXE name is "ChildofLight.exe"

B. For me it did not matter if UPLAY was online or offline.

So I got a response from Ubisoft:

Thank you for reaching Ubisoft Technical Support.

Allow me to start by apologizing for the time that I have taken to get back to you on this ticket. We are doing our best to improve our service to ensure our responses are as quick as possible.

Thank you for the files provided, they are very helpful.

It seems that you are trying to run Child of Light on a Xeon. This is an amazing machine, though it might also be the cause of your crashes.

This architecture is not optimized for games and as such, our games are not developed for it. In this rare case, you have a computer that has too many CPUs for the game. And that will cause the game to crash.

Here are our requirements, just as an FYI: https://support.ubi.com/en-US/Faqs/000019047/Minimum-Requirements-for-Child-of-Light

There is a way to make it work on your computer, though this means disabling Cores. Since this means changing the way that the hardware works, we cannot provide technical support.

We advise you either to contact the manufacturer or if you have the technical expertise, proceed at your own peril.

Please let me know if I can assist you with anything else as I will be here to help you if you need.

Hope to hear from you soon!
Kind Regards,
Ubisoft Customer Support

:cell: Wasn't entirely sure what to respond :conwayfacepalm:

Actually, I think they just admitted to a flaw in their own game :trazz: kind of dumb, on their part. Essentially the game isn't architectured for all CPUs. So it's possible that people with issues playing the game simply have systems that are too good to play the game on. Guess the game hasn't been future-proofed.

Has anyone tried setting the processor affinity to limit the cpus used? I upgraded from my Xeon so I am able to run the game now, but I figured someone could give it a shot.

Bought this retail at my local shop (PC Deluxe Edition) and I cannot play this game lmao
I've tried compatibility mode (Windows 8) both for uPlay AND the .exe, and run the .exe in its folder manually as administrator.

I've tried running both as administrator and both on Windows 8 Compatibility mode and the game is still crashing.

The game will crash about 10 seconds into the game - So I'll be able to get to the menu but then ..*crash/ctd*

PC Specs
Windows 10 64-bit
i5 4690
R9 290

EDIT:
Have to run uPlay in Offline mode to get it working.

The year is 2020, ubis**t still has not fixed this. Having crashes on launch due to too many cores on a Ryzen 3900X
