Child of Light

Am I missing something?
So I watched this on twitch for about an hour or so and I noticed something that really was off putting. The enemy, no matter where you fight or who you fight has no HP/MP bar. None of them had a bar. I could not tell what they had so I couldn't tell If I was playing wether or not to use a big hit, defense, drop a potion. You just hit it till it dies and hope you make the right choice by pure luck? Please tell me Im missing it or the streamers didn't have the option on, or something like that. If not, and the enemy has no way of telling HP/MP that is game breaking.

Does what you are fighting ever show HP/MP? I refer to South Park stick of truth as a current example of this type of game done right, hope I am missing something in this game, it looks great.

I doubt if they will leave out something so important. Probably you'll get that info by mousing over enemies. Otherwise we will make an uproar and make them patch it in :)

Nope its not in game, I was just told in twitch by a streamer it was actually a strategy to not have a strategy and it made the game key and apparently gives the game character. I just think its lazy and I like to plan my hits, I could not imagine South Park or any FF game with no HP/MP, at least give us the option.

Edit: I just watched a fight with a giant and 2 wolves, I couldnt tell what he was doing, healing, buffing, I couldnt tell what wolf to hit, if one was stronger then the other, they don't have any icons for buffs, I've seen arrows running up for attack up but its all over the enemy and they were doing other buffs, but that was the only one you could tell was on. This game needs work, it needs icons for buff, debuff, it needs HP/MP, or at least the option to turn that on. Hopefully the streamer was wrong and I just don't know.

I can't remember the last main series FF game that I played that had enemy HP/MPs bars. I personally believe leaving them out adds more depth to the fights.

Some Turn-Based RPGs have "scan" abilities that allow you to check enemy HP/MP/Weaknesses, etc. Maybe Child of Light has something like that, which can be obtained later in the game.

Wait... are you complaining that the *enemy* has no hp/mp bar? RPGs have sent you into battles blind since time immemorial. Did enemies have hp bars in any of the Final Fantasies? Breath of Fire? Dragon Quest? You memorize enemies and learn what it takes to kill them. You don't just get spoon-fed their stats and information. What am I missing here about this childish complaint?

Hmm I have ff8, I could swear they had HP/MP bars but I cold be wrong. Maybe I am spoiled with South Park. Any option would be great at least to me, even a late game scan.

I just said maybe I am spoiled by South Park, but I was writting that as you were insulting me. I was asking for it to be an option douche.

I can tell you right now, they did not. You had to Scan to get that information.

If that was the case in this game why do they show attack up arrows and other buffs glowing over the entire enemy like a road sign? We need to be "spoon-fed their stats and information" on that but not on HP/MP, pick and choose, maybe you missed that during the reading of my childish complaint.

And good to know about scan, I don't remember being that deep into ff8 and having that ability.

Does it give some other indications like the enemies getting bruised and such?

I can't remember but did Chrono Trigger have HP bars for the enemies?

Ive been playing FFX HD and I dont think there are any health bars over the enemies. In fact I cant rememeber ever playing an turn based RPG with health bars over the bad dudes. Usually you would have to cast a spell to see their health/mp but that was always a waste of a cast.
Maisie_Mommy Apr 29, 2014 @ 12:39pm
I can say with very reasonable confidence that they did not leave out the health bars to be 'lazy' ... Very often it's a case of reusing the old code from the player health and quite straitforward to impliment on mobs... Perhaps it's an ill advised decission, but i'm sure it was intentional none the less.

Not many rpgs have health bars for enemies. Why would you know exactly how long till an enemy flops over?

You would know by looking at them... how beat-up and chopped-up they are.

Ever played monster hunter? Not a single monster Health bar, you have to see when its weak through changes in animation and signs of exhaustion. Probably the same here. No Oversight. You don't really need a health bar.
