Child of Light

How hard is this game?
The only two difficulty options are causal and expert, thats kinda one exterme or the other isn't it? I don't consider myself causal and I am not sure I am expert but I want to go with the last option. How much of an expert do you need to be to play expert?

I'm not a turn-based RPG expert at all, but I was able to complete the game on expert mode. Yes, it is hard, and you will die several times at every boss fight in the game, but every attempt will usually be better than your previous one... IMO, that's what makes the bosses so awesome. I think it would honestly have sucked if I could have beaten all those tough fights on casual mode at first try...

Also, dying will restore all your group's health and magic points, and you will be given back all the items you used in the fight you died at, so the game is still pretty forgiving even on the hard mode...

I beat it on Expert, but I didn't enjoy this. A lot of it comes down to 100% clearing levels to make sure you're leveled up, and capturing every firefly trail perfectly with the analog stick, in order to get enough MP restores. Neither of these things is about the combat, and I personally find the fireflies painfully tedious.

If you're willing to play with keyboard and mouse, the fireflies are utterly trivial to catch with a mouse though. They made the controller bad on purpose, to encourage couch coop.

I play on Expert. I'm currently in the flying island part. Up to now I had a lot of fun, because it is hard, but not too hard. You need to take on the fights though and make good use of your gems. For example, if you see the enemy is fire, you gotta equip some water gems.

I didn't. Up to now the only bosses I died at were the first one and uhm, I don't know if I died to any other boss.

Yeah, the gem system definitely helps. I started using it halfway through the game, so that's probably why I sucked at the first bosses more than I did at the last ones... ;)

Cool, I'll start a new game on expert, thxs guys. I play a lot of breath of fire and final fantasy so I can't picture it being too hard for me.

If you know Round Based Strategy stuff, you'll definetly won't suffer in this game. It really seems to be like that. You can either play the actual game (expert), or you just run through seeing the story.
I have a lot of experiance with these games and I have to say that Expert mode is just hard enough to be enjoyable . Someone with less experiance might actually struggle because you have to plan your steps when fighting bosses .

Some of the bosses took more than few tries and I had to grind few levels here and there to even have a chance .

Its not hard hard for seasoned gamers but if you think that you can click attack button and get by expert mode its not gona work . You really have to utilize your party members to the fullest .

Fighting is the meat of the game so everyone should play expert mode unless you like 10 and never touched RPG game before .
