This game is HARD
I played the demo on PS4 mode the other day, chose expert setting difficulty because I ain't no casulnub. I know my way around RPG's...but ♥♥♥♥. This game kicked my ass so hard. Wtf. Every minion fight felt like a boss fight...

Still the game is gorgeous and the music is fantastic definitely going to pick this up. So yeah. :wrench:

This game isn't really that hard, here's some tips that you may find useful:

- Read the skills descriptions, don't lean everyone towards DPS, make sure each character has its own role. (Balanced, healer, tank, DPS, specialty, booster, debuffer)

- Get slow down (All) and Paralyze (All), both at 100% chances ASAP. Really a necessity to handle enemies better.

- Feel free to use your items on bosses, you'll never run out if you tend to explore often.

- ALWAYS go for surprise attacks, if you didn't manage to, then simply flee and try again. The flee success chance is 100%, so you can easily retry.

- Know your oculi, if you're not sure what does what, then check a wiki.

- Take advantage of enemies weaknesses, especially at the beginning, since characters are lacking crowd control.

- The first party member that joins you is also really good for interrupts, time those interrupts well to control the flow of the battle.

This is pretty much it.
Just plan ahead, explore and learn how to chain those interrupts well enough to minimize damage.

I've also started the game blind on Expert, and haven't got wiped out once, including New game+

Good luck.

Not to challenging. I started the game on expert and have lots of experience in RPG's. Mostly learning the game mechanics helps. Stick with the main two characters Aurora and Rubella. That will make most of the game easy. They are both paladin like classes that hit alot and can heal. For each tree take them down the path that increases their primary attack to make a slash all type effect. Then take Aurora down the Counter Attack path, and Rubella down the healing path.

This game relies heavily on your knowledge of timing. You use your magic to slow enemies so you can hit them and interupt their strikes. Each fight you can use the plants to get back your light bar. Use the bar to mostly distort time, but heal when necessary. Try to avoid using actual magic as much as possible (only in emergencies since you don't have that much). You can get the first 20 levels this way.

You will eventually get the magic based characters next. Finn is your elemental mage that masters fire, water, and lightning, and Norah is your Time Mage / Status Effect Mage.

I suggest taking Finn down the Water path first since the beginning is fire based.
Norah should go for speed increase for party, then enemy speed decrease.

To make this game way easy, all members of your party gain xp. Even if that player dies in combat, as long as you complete the battle they are still given xp. Also, it doesn't hurt you at all to switch characters. You lose nothing from it so feel free to change out when needed. Also save ALL potions. You should only use potions during boss fights. Most bosses you don't need them. I went through most of the game never using them. Just learn the mechanics of each boss. Also heal your main player in between fights, that means that if you are near the end of a fight, heal your secondary player, cuz the primary can heal out of battle for free using the light bar. Use the lightbar to always keep a player up. You can use it as much as you want during your turn and it won't waste time. There is a downside to this though. Those plants regenerate light bubbles but only after a certain amount of time has passed. If you heal during your turn (outside of the battle's real time) then it will take longer to get the light flowers to respawn and you may run out of light. Use this wisely.

As I said stick with the two Paladins, Aurora and Rubella. Keep hitting and heal each other. If an enemy is magic based go to Finn and burn it down. If the enemies constantly interupt you use Norah to slow them down, and make you move much faster.

Oculi crafting.
Attacking Oculi
Diamond - 4x Speed
Amethyst - 50% Dmg when HP is below 20%
Onyx - +25% Magic Dmg
Spinel - 30% phyiscal Dmg

Diamonds and giving them to Aurora and Rubella's weapons. This will add significant speed increase allowing you to do combos.

Make the amethysts for the Paladins as well.
Give the Onyx to Finn to maximize his already hard hitting magic.
Eventually work towards making a Spinel to prep the pallys for max damage.
The princess stone is 40% physical damage, which is nice but I don't think it's worth the mats.

Defensive Oculi
Diamond - +20% XP
Amethyst - 20% physical resistance
Onyx - 50% All damage when HP is below 20%
Spinel - +40% speed after being interupted (1 turn)

To be fair, Rubella was nothing more than a heal and interrupt bot. Her damage is pretty lackluster.

What I loved about this game the most is that I could utilize ALL characters for boss AND random fights, which is something I've hardly ever came across in RPG's.
Not once, did I have a benched character through a whole chapter.
