Could I play this game with mouse and keyboard?
Can I play with them, or should I use a controller instead.

A mouse and keyboard certainly helps with aiming, however the way this game does item usage in terms of healing or special items, the d-pad on a controller makes this easier. If you have a controller with motion sensors in it like a Dualshock 4 or a Dualsense controller, you can turn on motion aiming which can help with aiming with a controller. I usually prefer using a mouse and keyboard in games that require aiming, however I do find it more comfortable to play this game with a controller with the motion aiming turned on.

Does aim assist with the controller with aiming in this game?

There is an aim assist feature you can turn on in settings, and it can help a bit with accuracy with a controller.

id argue that its better with keyboard and mouse.

Yeah it probably is honestly. You can aim better, and turn around faster with keyboard and mouse. The only thing you're missing is the analog stick for ease of walking slow/fast while sneaking, and how awkward the little item usage thing is with a keyboard.

Honestly, if you have the game and you have a controller, just try both and see which you like. Going back and forth is as simple as putting the controller down and using the mouse and keyboard. If they're both plugged in the switching happens automatically.

hit the nail on the head. this game requires a lot of inputs and high precision, playing with m&k really helps with this. as for the walking pace when sneaking, i set those actions to toggle and just bind a side mouse button. works a treat

'Alt' will make you walk and is a toggle (works during sneaking too)

Mouse + Keyboard work fine, easier to aim and can rebind keys and mouse buttons.

I played it with Controller on PS4
and
Mouse Keyboard on PC
and i had the best experience with mouse and keyboard controls.

I play this game with keyboard and mouse and I have found no problems with the layout whatsoever.
