Thinking the same thing. I have no problems with exclusive content as long as buyers are fully made aware such content exists, and such content is well hidden from players who don't have access to it.
As it stands now, this game has failed on both parts.
And especially the fact that Early Access supporters got less content that people who buy the retail version (after the official release date) leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I know the devs might have had little say in the matter, but still...
They said that they are working on a solution. Do you expect that to happen during Christmas? Maybe you should also complain about people not working on Christmas...
No one else has said this so i must suppose i am the oldest early access player to post on this thread. Those quests were originally part of the game and were removed as they got closer to "official" release. The owl quest is the dead lancer guy before you fight the giant spider, i was confused why i couldnt play the quest anymore now i know. And i had managed to interact with the alter before as well, but did not get to the door before i had stopped playing for a while and started a fresh player instead. This was all back before the prologue existed or you could even play as Evia (i was playing as Jasker). Im guessing the scorpion quest may have never been there simply as it was after you left thole and the bandit camp. And the early game never really went past thole, well as far as i could tell. So many endless updates forcing you to restart your character... so irritating.
I do not understand why the early access backers were not given this content. It feels like a betrayal, though i suppose they may feel a lower upfront cost is the pay off. Though my experience on steam has been that if you want to buy a game cheap you wait, if you want to help it actually get off the ground you buy it now. So no matter how low you feel the cost might be to early access backers, they will most likely pay much more than most who buy this game (at least through steam anyway).
Hopefully it will get re-added later (since it used to be there). In the mean time im going to be irritated over the seemingly non existent drop rate. Seriously you can only break a jar once, they dont respawn, so why do i usually get nothing from them save the occasional duskweed. Which may i say are everywhere and plants are the ONLY thing that respawn save a random enemy. I ended book one with level 8 gear on my character since i couldn't find any equipment better, and what recipes i had found i couldn't make since i couldn't find the ingredients. No joke, Evia fought the giant snake thing with a desert helm and desert bracers.
I will do my best to convince the publisher to make bonus content (3 quests) from retail to make available for Early Access players...
finding out AFTER Steam purchase
that I paid same price as full retail... and did not get all content...
very very dissappointing!
game is nice, but, i cannot recommend it until this content is provided to all.
They start selling the game on early access. Then, they remove content from the early access version, to make it exclusive to a retail edition (along with the soundtrack), so those who purchased the game early to support the development are unable to complete certain quests because they decided it was a good idea to make it this way.
Now, after the complaints they received, they make this content available as a separate, digital deluxe edition, with no option for past buyers to upgrade, or get the DLC separately? Really? Just wow...
Digital deluxe edition was never planned either, we as developer only learned about it day before the release (few days ago). We refused to support the release of digital deluxe edition and I also don't understand why they did not release included DLC separately in the first place...
There were several faulty decisions which we were not able to influence but hopefully we will be able to make things right soon...
Took the devs a while to get the rights back, after which they released an updated and finished version of the game called "Shadows: Awakening".
So if you want to experience the whole story, you need to check out the new version.
If you own "Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms", you should have gotten "Shadows: Awakening" for free in your library. Quote from the FAQ over at the S:A discussions board:
Anyway if it's the old publisher that forced this retail-only bonus content then good riddance on them going bankrupt.
If I remember correctly, back when this whole debacle started, they couldn't get ownership of the account that is linked to the store page. So they weren't able to push new updates.
Not sure if that has changed in the past couple of years though.
