Weapon and armour can be repaired. Any merc can do repairs; but the merc with the Macguyver and repair perks can repair faster and using less of the repair toolbox. The weapon that you want to repair first, must be in the Inventory personal load carrying Quick slots.
Worst repair mistake i make was puting the extra guns for repairs into the backpack slot. The merc fixes-up all the grenades, knife etc, ...then fix that gun in the backpack last.
What i find playing this game is that the repair toolbox gets used up very fast.
At the moment, if you have limited repair toolbox, suggest to do the following:
Only use the repair skill merc to do repairs. Put the guns into repair merc's Inventory Quick slots.
Only repair guns that are over 50% condition.
Only repair rifles that are in good condition or if you pick-up/buy a better rifle.
Always repair the rifles first, (My rifle is my life, without my rifle I am useless)
Do not repair pistol/SMG that are in very bad condition. These are cheap, just trade-in and buy new ones.
Do not repair armour. Eventually when you fight against Prince Elite, when they die they will drop more armour for you. 50% condition armour is just as good as 100% condition armour, because they don't stop enemy armour piercing bullets.
Do not repair anything else.
If you are training your mercs in marksmanship skills, do this training mostly at Prival Gas Station. (So, all mercs can repair their own guns and their own kit without running low on repair toolbox)
Hopefully next game patch, repair kits will last longer, or someone please help make a mod for easier/instant repairs please; but this will remove all the fun with having to manage your squad's gun collection.
I like this repair challenge at the moment, because without this the game becomes too easy.
"armorDurabilityLossFactor": 5,
from 5 to 3 for example(use only full numbers no 3,5 or so!).
From now on the weapons hold longer but the damaged ones stay damage tho.
If you want to repair your current broken weapons, more things are needed to edit in the game files.
The interface is not friendly and the inventory management is a drag....
Then there are other things like its cool that you have the quickslots associated to your armor, but then there is no weight limit and each merc can carry 2 sniper rifles, 1 in each hand....and shoot them both...
This game is not like JA2/BIA. The liitle things in this game are different. A lot of players have missed out on doing the little things that are actually in the game.
This game is set in timeline before JA1. For example, all the mercs have low skills and expereince levels. The combat skirmish mode is perfect opportunity to train up your mercs to improve their skil levels. Many players just skipped this part of the game and complain about not being able to do other things they have been used to doing in JA2 & BIA.
The fun part of repairing and modding guns are still in the game. You can use different gun attachments, scopes, silencers, improve the firing bolt & spring, etc. They just removed all the other boring stuff. Now any merc can work on thier gun. All good soldiers should be able to put their own rifle gun back together, while blindfolded. In JA2/BIA, only the mechanic merc can work on guns.
Inventory management is better. For example, you can haul all squad equipment when your squad is Oscar Mike (on the move between sectors). Don't need to use mules anymore to move inventory.
While I agree that alot of stuff from JA is not in the game, I think a lot of players have skipped over the stuff that is actually in the game.
I think the game has some things done right, but i think it misses in the little details. The interface, the little bugs despite the great support. I can't explain but i think that it just misses something to be a great game.....
But i agree that if the game was not called jagged alliance people would not complain so much and would enjoy it more.
It's weird but x-com for example, for me the original is a lot better than the new one but people like it. It is much more easier than the original but people even say it is more tactical to have only one item than to manage amunition and weight ?!?!?!? That choice was simply made because of consoles......
