Militia are only able to fully defend a sector when they are fully trained to 10-15 militia members.
There is no fog of war on the strategic map. It's like you have sattelite 24/7 to see enemy patrol movements.
The usual strategy will be one of the following:
Solution 1> Train the militia quickly, use the strategic map to see the enemy patrol movements. If you see the enemy patrol advancing, move the squad to defend/attack the sector ahead. After combat, collect the loot, then move the squad back into the sector to continue with training militia.
Solution 2> Use 2 squads. First squad to defend the sector ahead against enemy patrol. Second squad, could be the worse shooter merc on your roster (medic/mechanic), to train the militia.
Well these are nice workarounds. But in in JA1-2 you did not control the Militia, but your merc/squad was there at the same time as the attack. And I know that Militia are pretty useless. But it should not be that way. And I should not have to have 2 squads a tranier and a attack squad. This is something they have to fix. Because this simulatar sucks, and I dont understand why they even have it.
In JAF, the militia when fully trained to 15 members is over powered. They do not ever lose a fight against any enemy patrols. This is the penalty that you have to pay: you have to sacrifice one merc to finish the militia training. At least you get some free mercs to use. If you don't get any free mercs, you have to work on your overall game strategy.
Before training militia is Badilla, you should already have Vicky.
Before training militia in Marino, you should already have Buns (depending on the quest).
By the time you have the Farm, Badilla, Marino North, Gazarro Mine and Marino South, money will start flowing easily and you should be able to afford at least 2 squads of mercs.
Again, i don't pass judgemnent on the rules of the game. I just play the game according to the rules. Like in Chess, I don't question why the King only moves one square, when the Queen gets to move over many squares.
Sorry guy,but in JA2 I also had to assign a trainer merc to the militia...Remembering Ira or Vince...
In my next campaign, I probably will only train full militia squads at the mines, Badilla, Marino North and at the lighthouses.
