Worth it even with mods and a discount?
I love the JA series. Played JA1, Deadly Games, JA2, the numerous russian "clones" (like Hired Guns, Brigade E5 and 7,62mm etc) and even JA Back in Action and loved them all.

I heard about this one from Kickstarter but didn't pay much attention to it, the only thing I remember was that there was supposed to be a strong modding platform on it.

Now after a few years, I notice it on Steam Store but with some very negative reviews.

Is it really that bad? Are there not any unofficial mods or patches to make the experience better?

And in general, would it be worth it for a hardcore JA fan at all, even with a strong discount? I mean, I played a lot of obscure, unpolished and buggy eastern European tactical RPGs and enjoyed them nonetheless because of the mechanics or other stuff. Would this be comparable to it or not?

Thanks!

Not worth more than 5 bucks. And there are not many mods, Shanga from Bear's Pit did a couple you should use but there won't be more.

I would boot up JA2 1.13 and play that

Thanks for the answer!

I guess I'll wait for a sale then. And keep playing 1.13 + IOV in the meantime. :)

By the way, would you happen to know why did people stop modding this game? Lack of resources or tools? Uncooperative devs?

The devs pretty much doondoggled the whole ordeal. As far as modding goes the parent company that owned the IP went under and sold the IP rights to different company which prevented this lil company who were just pretty much renting the IP from releasing the source code to make any meaningful mods.

As far as is this game worth it? It has its moments when it is fun and its moments when it is so damn frustrating. I would definetly be more forgiving if it did not have the JA name on it. It plays out like a horrible fan fiction by eastern european devs that just don't really get what made the JA games fun. Pay no more than ten dollars

This game is in limbo at the moment, without any dev support. Some bits of the game on the external files can be modded without any dev support, but any meaningful mod will require access to the locked files and further dev support.

We can mod the characters, the story and the guns; but cannot add extra guns. If you add in one modded gun, it will be at the expense of another existing gun. Not a problem, you can mod out ALL the useless WW2 era guns. Some examples of what mods can be achieved:

A very nice showcase indeed!

I don't suppose your mods and tweaks are available somewhere online?
uncle nick Apr 1, 2020 @ 4:35am
ok, i'm now off work, on COVID-19 shutdown leave. So now i have heaps of spare time at home to work on this useless game mod again. I have deleted the old version, and going to code a new game mod version.
