..Apparently, they say that the AI's intelligence is based on the clockspeed and CPU of your PC. On 486 machines it's right on the border, any higher than that such as Intel Pentium makes the puzzle impossible. (But surprisingly, when I tried T7G on my iMac with OS 9.2.2, there wasn't a problem!)
This also happens in the original Carmageddon games, where the timer goes faster on high FPS.
I could try this out by playing through the game with DOSBOX, whilst using cputype 486_slow to document.
1. Press ++Level twice to set Auto to (3)
2. Click Auto
3. Do the Blue move it does
4. Copy the AI's move from the game
5. Repeat 2-4 untill you win
You can read more about its history on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ataxx
On on attempt I did nothing besides duplicate my pieces, (have them only move one space), and that was the round I won. I had to think strategically about where I duplicated them to, but this prevented me from getting tons of pieces taken.
You, my friend, are awesome. Thank you :)
I almost *1 move screwed up!* beat it after having played a similar game on mobile obsessively for some months. I was even recording and commenting all of the moves, that video is gone unfortunately, and I haven't played either since. Just like the dolls, it takes a lot out of you. :/
