So i played this game watched a LP and i am seeing if i can beat this myself since i like Point and Click adventure games with puzzles involved. Although i know all puzzles are difficult at some points i want to know which is the hardest puzzle?

I would have to say the bishop puzzle is by far the most difficult. I never could solve it, one of the few puzzles I actually had to buy the official guide book just to find the real solution for.

Luckily there is a game mechanic to skip puzzles if they seem unsolveable.

The microscope puzzle game is the only one I could never beat in probably 6 or 7 total play throughs over the years.

bishops and microscope are both quite hard. The maze is if you don't realize where the map is.

While having the map can make it go much faster, you don't need the map if you follow a general maze rule. Whenever presented with a choice of direction, ALWAYS pick the same direction and you will eventually find the exit. I tend to pick right, if you can't go right, you pick the right most choice, which in this case is straight.

That can be done, but it takes forever in that maze and it's several turns before you're supposed to actually turn. It's easy to get turned around if you aren't mapping it yourself when doing it. Took me forever when I was a kid and it first came out.

The only ones I couldn't solve unaided were the bishops, the toy blocks, and the cans. In the cases of the toy blocks and the cans, not having any hint as to what words you're trying to form is really debilitating, especially in the case of the toy blocks because there are so many possible combinations of three words that you can form from those letters. I tried seven different combinations before throwing my hands up in the air and going to the hints. After looking up the hints for what the words are, I solved both puzzles in very little time.

The telescope is the most strenuous, though. The AI for that one is too good - you can't afford a single slip-up. As incredibly satisfying as it was to beat it, I don't think I'd have minded if it were just a little easier.

Overall I think I'd have to vote for the bishops as the toughest one.

Do you mean the microscope? The telescop is the first puzzle and very easy. There's is a java script to show you moves to beat the microscope every time. You just enter what the AI moved and it shows you where you should.

The only reason the cans gave me trouble was the uncommon usage of tryst. The woman trying to arrange them is a sort of ♥♥♥♥♥ which gives you a clue to one of the words.

This game was just cursed by being cutting edge hardware and technical issues during filming that ripped one of the green screens causing really bad video on top of the required compression.

Yeah, I meant the microscope. I guess I didn't proofread my post carefully enough.

I agree, the telescope is very easy. It's not necessarily the first puzzle, though. I did the cake first (one of my favorites) and the spiders second.

ture, those two are also accessible right at the start.

After playing a similar game constantly on mobile, I ~almost~ beat the Microscope by only a few moves but messed up right at the end >_<

+1 to the bishops.
The most difficult one for me was the cans in the cabinet to form a sentence. I'm not native English and it also used old English words. When I showed it to my English brother in law he even didn't know.
But I started searching on dictionaries and encyclopaedias that helped me solve it back then.
I just love to play it again. To see what I still can remember or not B-) to get it solved once more.

Yeah, the cans one is really hard even for native English speakers. I don't know what I'd do if I had to tackle a puzzle like that in Spanish (my second language).

as far as I've figured out, there's only one other solution that makes a valid sentence. Most approach word puzzles as expecting things to "appear" to them based on seeing the letters and trying combinations of them, but this can be solved by brute force.
almost every word ends in "y" and that's obvious from the number
there's only so many "L" so you know how many adverbs there are since few end in 'y' without having "L" before them.
The remaining letters are infrequent and there's a few 2 and 3 letter ones that are obvious based on the other available letters and ending in y.
The hardest part is the non modern usage of tryst. Its connotation wasn't solely sexual and can imply a specific time and place to meet (in this case the crypt as per when it's solved).

I played this game as a kid in the 90s (gave me nightmares sometimes). I still remember how to solve some of the puzzles (like the kitchen cans), but I had to lookup the moves for the Bishops Puzzle. If you visit the book in the library three times it will solve the puzzle for you (the first two times will give you hints). The only time I ever used this trick was with the microscope-germ puzzle, as I could never win. I'm not that far in my current gameplay, so maybe when I get there 2019/2020 me will do better than 1990s me.

If you are all stumped by these puzzles wait until you play The 11th Hour!
