I strongly hope they won't do that.
Implementing multiplayer just takes development time and money away from singleplayer and citybuilders are singleplayer games! You have an idea what it would take to sync all these agents and the sim? They would either have to dumb down the simulation until its nothing worth anymore or go the Sim City-way, and make little citytiles, which was a total failure. And from this failure Cities Skylines could profit and become so popular in the first place. So no, if there is still old management they won't do that for sure, and if they do, nobody will play this...
What is needed imo is better hardware-optimization, better multicore-support, more concurrent agents, bigger maps(for the folks with beefy machines), better terraforming, water and weather physics - and such things.
Completely disagree. It can be singleplayer AND multiplayer. Cities are not built by a single persons input anyhow. it's the year 2021....people enjoy games with other people. A game like this could benefit greatly form multiplayer. You wouldn't have to play it if you didn't choose to......no one would force you. Multiplayer regional play would be fantastic......a crapton of people want this as well. The tech is there with the right engine.
Everything evolves....its time citybuilders do as well. in 2012/2013 SimCity didnt have the tech yet.......its there now to pull this off.
