25 vs 81 tiles
Is the most recent 81 tiles 2 mod now the only one?

I don't see any updated 25 tile mods on workshop.

My maps were made using 25 tiles, because I didn't want to load the larger maps when I didn't need that extra space.

I just returned to game, updated the half dozen mods I'm using, but I'm having to use the 81 tile 2 mod, which I can run, but my map edges are unfinished.

Is there still a 25 tile mods that's updated, or does this new 81 t2 mod completely supercede the 25?

I'd like to know before I start editing all my maps for 81. I'm barely loading them now. Lol.

And yes I am using most recent loading mod, but it goes into the red everytime. Sys ram not quite good enough even though once loaded I can play them without any problems.

The '81 Tiles 2' mod gives you the option to unlock the entire map, as well as just the inner 25 tiles. The choice is yours.

Have you set up a pagefile? It can help you load more stuff.

If you haven't then use this guide made by snowflitzer to set one up: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2114415052

25-tile mods shouldn't need updating. It just a basic "Unlock" script that triggers the game to unlock the inner 25-tiles and then you unsubscribe the 25-tile mod and they stay unlocked and you have full access to the vanilla, unmodded 25-tiles.

You need to stay subscribed to the 81-tile mod, as the outside 2-rows of tiles aren't mean to be unlocked, so you need a mod to make those two outer rows of tiles to work properly with the game, so it must be subscribed at all times.

Just can't get bigger than 150k pop or you start running into all kinds of issues because they engine is old and they only release shallow DLC instead of updating anything relevant. I can't wait for Cities 2 to be playable 3-4 years after its release.

The population issue is due to a CPU bottleneck - likely due to too many paths. While an engine issue, it is not because it is old, but because of the agent system mechanic of the game.

I myself have no issues playing 81 tiles with 400k+ people, barring simulation slowdowns which may occur depending on which device I am using, with some maxed out limits:

I use "Big City" 25-tile mod. And like Mark said, they don't need updating as they don't break since they always address only the vanilla 25-tile area. Normally you are able to choose any 9 out of those 25 (connected to each others of course) but with the mods you can unlock them all without having to worry about game breaking with the update.

i already know most of the issues with this game as they are numerous. The specifics weren't relevant to my point for the most part. I glossed over this by mentioning the dated engine and disinterest of the developers.

You stated issues with 81 Tile mod + 150k+ people. My post was in reply to that alone.

Like I said, I have no issues with a 81 Tile city with a high population.

You just explained later yourself why they didn't "optimise" for 81 tiles. 8 years ago computers couldn't handle as much as they do today. And after 150k things started to get slow, and that was well doable within 9 tiles.

I personally had issues with 81 tiles.
25 tiles never made any problems. And as stated many times above it is the save option.

If you don't want any funny buisness and your save to be safeeven if the mods don't work:
go for 25.

Thanks alot folks. I did find that option to unlock 25 in the 81 tiles 2 settings. Thanks.

I spend more time map making than I do city making. So I really don't get the population issues.

And thanks Max, for pagefile tip. Gonna check that out asap.

From what I now understand the 81 Tiles2 mod offers the option to run 25 tiles instead of 81, along with a few other options as well.

Not instead, but as well.
