Different publishers, developers.
Different game engines.
Cities XXL is refreshing/continuation of a game series (City Life, Cities XL).
Cities: Skylines is new game, unless you could somehow relate it to Cities in Motion (which are rather city transportation simulations than a city builders).
Cities XXL will be available on Windows.
Cities: Skylines will be available on Windows, Linux, OSX.

cities skylines is known to be multi-threaded

I own xl .. so I can wait until after release and still get the 50% off if I want. personally, I'd not buy it unless they improved the camera/interface, and specifically the building placement snap-to-grid.
with no word from them except "new buildings" and apparently more street level animations, I doubt I am buying the upgrade.

You know there are mods that do that, right ?

http://xlnation.city/resources/camera-tilt-mod-adjusted.1178/
http://xlnation.city/resources/xl-user-interface-mod.8/
http://xlnation.city/resources/limitless-over-water-for-residential-and-offices.549/
http://xlnation.city/resources/flexible-placement-mod.459/

As for streets animations, nothing new, they were already in all other CXL games.

Cities in Motion 2 is BEST :-)

Without any transportation u will end up like in Sim City 2013

Yeah, great city building game, except it's not.

sad that the community needs to make mods to finish game, the devs diddnt add anything
and
is their a mod to add multi thread? no.. game sucks to put cherry on top the fact they don't care for the customers feedback should just appal you. You dont go to a restraunt again after the waiter was rude and or the tablles are dirty along with the seats you sit on... if you do you frankly stupid as you're giving money to someone who doesn't care about you.. the customer.

Depends on how spectacular the food is... :stare:

it depends on how much work they have done to XXL

Love City builders/simulation. Sim City is still fun but really showing it's age- almost the computer gaming equivalent of a silent movie! Decision has been made for me. I own a macbook so it's Cities Skylines for me. It does look so much better than Cities XL from what i've seen of trailers- also I play CiM2. Would be great if building in run down districts had broken windows/ grafitti/ burned out cars and trash

Eh ? CS looks better ?

Ok, here is what you can do with CXL:

I really, really doubt CS can look that good, and that you can do as much than that with this 'game'

Just look at the farms (yes, they are not modded)

Ok, so the community thing with CS will be as bad as in CXL if I follow your logic ?

As for multi thread, well.... since the point of the thread is to compare CXXL and CS.... CXXL will have multi-thread support.

And I have a lot, and I mean a LOT of playtime on CXL, all games cumulated maybe more than a thousand hours. I know all it's flaws and stooped playing it by rage a lot of time too.

But in the end, I'm still playing it, building great cities. Will I be able to do the same in CS ? For what I saw until now, no.

Maybe with the community content. But like you said, it's sad that a game wold need community content to be playable. let me add to this, it'as sad that a game recquire community content to be appealing and be the only selling point.

EDIT: Oh, and before any of you says that CXXL is another paying patch, I'll say, yes it's true and bouh FHI, very bad FHI, by the way it's not even a development studio, just a publisher, CXXL is their only 'active' project in 'development'. But in the end, when I llook at the DLC politic of Paradox, CXL (2011+2012+platinium+CXXL) cost me less than CIM 1 & 2 +all dlcs.....

So will CS +dlcs be cheaper than CXXL ?

End of the Day, Why Cities XXL vs Cities:Skylines.

I think I'm Cities XXL and Cities: Skylines.

I think one will be a City Builder that I'll enjoy creating cities with and one will be a City Builder Game that I'll enjoy building cities with.

Agreed.

You can be damn sure both CS and CXXL won't be perfect down to the tiniest details. What I can't find in one title I will find it in the other.

I am playing Cities XL and their variation for more than 5 years. It is a great game but... What FHI actually did from their promises? Nothing... And their community support is not worth mentioning. Without modders the game sucks. So what is the difference between XL and XXL? Multicore? I will believe when I see it (or somebody tell me cause I do not want invest my money into this). More then thousand buildings? Sorry but how many NEW did they actually created? What about TRAINS? We are asking for them since middle age...We just want your money. Now. Skylines... I absolutely love this game and videos I saw was even from alfa...trains, water flowing, wind, EVERYTHING which accodring to FHI cannot be implemented is there....Sorry guys but my choice is very easy. Paradox take my money and let me play:)

, I was disappointed with Simcity, as you ran out of space, and this was an issue for me, I love the sequel to it, as things took place in the future, which was fun for me

i agree, space in SimCity is so sparse it feels so restricted. I want to have a populated, well designed city that's profitable and also do some of the more interesting things but there just honestly wasn't any room in the city at all to build anything. The failures of public transport in that game hurts a lot too.

the AI has very strange behaviour overall. i am very glad this is coming from devs who have experience

By the way everyone, Should i play cities in motion 1 or 2, i own both on steam from a humble bundle i think but havent gotten around to playing them.
Greygor 29 ENE 2015 a las 3:22 a. m.
I like the first Cities in Motions a lot, there's some interesting challenges in the Campaign and it forces you to switch cities as you move through it so you get an interesting look at different city styles

OK, now this has pricked up my ears and this game is now added to my wishlist. Any decent city builder on Linux is a welcome. I just hope they can deliver. CitiesXXL is nothing more than a tweak for the previous games. That's fine if I can buy it for $10, but even at $20 (50% off for owners of previous games in series), I don't see myself spending that on a glorified patch.

SimCity doesn't even enter into the city building genre because...you can't...build...cities. Only villages...god I hate EA so much, subhumans run that company, they are proof that evolution is blind as a bat.
