How do I exploit resources?

How can I locate and exploit sources of oil, coal etc?

In the overlay panel (top left button) you'll see a natural resources overlay, it will show you where everything on the map is located.

But resources like oil run out very fast, there is a mod for infinite resources somewhere ( I do not use it, but maybe will in the future ). If you use no mods, I think it is a better way to use farms and forests, none of them have ran out for me ( but read that one player got problems with farmland at some point ).

Yes they do run out and yes oil and ore seems to run out far too quickly, but that does not make that specialised industry redundant, it will keep on working. It will import the raw resources instead of extracting them and will continue to process those raw materials into the products the generic industry needs.
