Terrible Performance on GTX 970
GTX 970
8 GB RAM
FX-8320 OC @ 4.2 GHz
Using a TV - 1360x768

This game has terrible performance on my PC and I'm not sure why. All my drivers are up to date and I'm not even running in full HD. The game runs between 25-30 FPS and the FPS doesn't change whether I have it on the highest settings or the lowest, which is weird. I've tried tinkering with my GFX card settings with the Nvidia control panel but to no avail. If anyone has any suggestions on what to do, that would be great.

According to a few reviews of that processor, it has some heat issues. could it be overheating? C:S is a cpu intensive game. other than that, try rolling back to the previous gpu drivers, sometimes the current ones can cause problems.

that being said, i also have a gtx 970 with an i5 and have no issues.

I have a liquid cooler for it, so overheating isn't an issue. I'll definitely try rolling back the drivers.

i have an i7 3820 lga 2011 and a gtx 970 and had no problems, until today when i got a cities.exe has stopped working. but was getting 60 fps when the game is running.

It's very strange that the performance is like this. For perspective, I can run The Witcher 3 on highest settings (including Nvidia Hairworks) with additional graphics mods @ 60 FPS capped. I know that C:S is more of a CPU intensive game but still, if I can run the Witcher, I should be able to run C:S better than this.

So is this with a new/small city or with a larger one?? It is normal for this game to have framerates drop drastically once your city grows big, but it really should run a smooth 60fps with a small city on your rig.

Brand new city. I downloaded a larger city and the FPS was about the same.

That is indeed very weird.

Hmm, GTX 970 here with i5, FPS 50-60 on city size 100,000.

When zooming in I get a drop to about 35 FPS and then that recovers once zooming out a bit.

This is without Mods.

Do you have alot of assets?

My game just crashed to desktop as well.

I have an i7 4790k (liquid cooler attached)
2 Gigabyte G1 GTX 970s (SLI enabled)
16 GB of Ram

Not sure what the FPS was, but the game on crash was at 3.5 million K on the task manager. I think that is a bit high when it comes to any game. I myself have a handful of assets - vehicles, buildings, and some roads. Probably around 40 or so...

Based on some of the complaints it can't be either AMD or Intel processors, so it would have to be related around the video cards, and It seems that most of the complaints are coming from the 970s...

I have Nvidia Experience, so drivers are up-to-date and are optimized based on Nvidia recommendations - Everything on max settings

I had a population of 112k when the crash took place.

Good thing about this game at 30fps you can't really tell, but you should get more. My system is less powerful than yours. i7 920 with a gtx 750 ti sc. I'm getting 30fps with a full city. Restore your nvidia control panel to default "let 3d application decide" and see if that helps.

I used to but I got rid of them all, it didn't help.

I have roughly the same setup as you OP. Im able to run the game just fine maxed out with an average of 55fps. Larger cities tanks my fps to around 20.

Fx8320 | 4ghz, evo 212 push pull cooler.
8gb
SLi GTX 660 2GB Ti | Driver 352.86, Resolution 1600x900 / Surround Mode 4800x900.

Fps is not really something you should be concerned about in a game like skylines. i have a gtx 970 and fx 6300 clocked at 4.6 ghz and when i zoom in on bigger cities i get something like 35-45 fps, its just the way the game simulation works, there is nothing wrong with your pc and you should be fine playing at around 30 if you are zoomed, and you should be getting 60 when zoomed out for most of the time, unless ♥♥♥♥ hits the fan! Anyway there are some tweaks you can do like feeding your gpu more power through the nvdia cntrl panel!

Do other games have the issue or just this game?

I got same card as you but 12gb ram and older cpu i7 950@3.0ghz and don't have the issue.

Wish I could say more other than sounds like something is definitly in need of a fix. Good luck.
