HELP! "Not enough raw materials" Solution?
I have been facing this problem lately: The biggest part of my industrial area requests raw materials! Before suggesting something please be aware of the following facts:

*It's not a traffic issue. I have 2 raised highways leading straight to the industrial area and congestions are a problem only in the residential area of my 49.000+ population city.
*I have 2 cargo terminals on each side of my square shaped industrial area. Both of those operate normally.
*All of the problematic industrial buildings have FULL access to roads since their workers manage to get there by car/bus/train.
*I have increased the train budget

I would appreciate it if you could help me out by leaving some suggestions! Thank you!

Old thread, I know, but I might have found a solution for the problem. My city: 230.000 ppl, a quite large industry district, some offices, some commercial ♥♥♥♥, no specialization.

I had a problem with some confused passenger ships looping around and not despawning. After deleting the passenger harbor (not the goods harbor!), this:

happened and fixed several problems including having 'not enough raw materials'.

Hope it helps, good luck.

Is it in a district set as oil or ore industry? If so, set it to normal industry and new buildings will spawn that don't need as many resources.

It is just a normal industry. I haven't drawn a district over it yet. Around 70% of it is now abandoned. Still can't find the solution to this. Even the Oil Electricity Generator thingy ran out of resources. It gives me the feeling that they don't even ORDER the materials.

I had this problem for a while too. Adjusting the roads around my cargo station cleared it up. I'm guessing what was happening was the trucks exiting the station were taking too long and causing a backlog within the station and causing trucks there to time out and despawn.

Also keep an eye on your two cargo stations and make sure trucks aren't just moving cargo from one station to the other.

I think there is a bug in the game currently. I've had my city of 85,000 stop working out of nowhere because none of the industry are getting raw goods. My harbor stopped seeing inbound ships completely. One moment the whole industry worked and I was importing 6k+ then it drops to under 2k for no reason.

It's really disappointing to spend that much time on a city and have it fall apart. I haven't been able to bring myself to play again, because I'm convinced it's a bug and there's no evidence it won't happen again.

Interesting. I will try that. Thank you!

Oh well, I tried re-arrenging the roads but nothing happened. Around 8/10 vehicles that come out of my cargo stations are vans and go directly to the Commercial Stores, so it looks like I can do without an industry. However I will lose a fair amount of income if I completely take it down.

Any suggestions on that? I really don't know what to do...

I have checked your analysis of the problem. However after some close research on my city I unfortunately didn't find a solution. I am now also in need of workers. I don't know why since I have a Passenger Train station, a METRO station and a bus like connected to the industrial area. But that's for another time. What also bothers me is the fact that a cargo train arrives every 1 minute or so, however it is usually only 10% full and it doesn't even contain raw materials. It mainly contains supplies for shops which SHOULD be produced at the industry and not be imported like that!

I rechecked my city for traffic issues but anything flows freely without ANY congestions. All areas are perfectly connected with highly efficient roundabouts and exits from the highway towards the indu area and the commercial district. I also decided to disable the Industrial Planning policy however nothing seemed to change after waiting for 10 mins.

I decided to start some specialized industries (forestry and farms). I will make sure to connect them as good as possible. You seem very experienced, if you have any other suggestions, tell me. I will also upload some screenshots and maybe my save file for the city!

EDIT: I checked some stats, and it seems like my city is importing only goods and not any other products! That could be the reason of the problem... but how do I fix it?!

IIRC, and others may correct me, but only Generic Industry generates Goods.

It will then send those Goods to local commercial buildings and export excess.

If you are importing Goods, and only Goods it would suggest that maybe you do not have enough Industry to produce enough Goods for all your commercial properties.

Absence of Screen Shots or Saved Game sort of makes it difficult to say more.

I realized that the problem started occuring on the year 2048, so I checked my city statistics to check what changed and, you were kind of right. That's the point where my commercial zone grows WAYYY bigger and my industry stays the same. So the lack of industry probably caused this.

Greygor, in order for your general industry to produce goods, you need raw materials which your industries can either order or get by local specialized industries. That's why I was thinking of zoning some!

Yeah, I've done the same myself but could never seem to get the balance right :)

I like a game where just when you think you've got it sussed there's always something new to learn

I got a similar problem and I really can't seem to fix it. Everything seems to be fire, it looks like some of my industry is simply not ordering raw materials...

There is my save file is someone wants to take a look !

Cyric, I tried your game.

I think the main problem in your case is that you don't have enough "industry" demand. No demand, no imports, I guess. I removed some offices and that seemed to help!!!

Another thing (speculating here) is that your trucks are stuck on your commercial/residential areas in traffic delivering things.. so maybe they are spending all the time delivering and not enough time acquiring goods? Hard to say.

In my own city, I have a problem with my trucks actually not clearing the railyard and shipyard fast enough...
Keldiun Oct 15, 2015 @ 2:36pm
Thanks for having a look. It's true that my industry is exporting it's goods, but I'm pretty sure I removed the "Industrial Space Planning" to see if the reduction of production changed anything... Maybe I didn't leave it off long enough, I will try again.

About the truck thing, I will check if the industry not exporting its goods are more problematic, since they have to go more in the trafic.
Keldiun Oct 15, 2015 @ 5:31pm
Even if the industry is not producing enough good for the commerces I'm still getting raw materials issues.

I'm starting to believe that there is a bug occuring somehow !
